The Auris Children’s Diatonic Lyre – 12 Strings (A–E) is a beautifully crafted instrument designed for older children who are ready to work within the full diatonic scale and engage in more formal musical study.

Made from solid maple wood, this lyre features Auris’s characteristic notched base, which supports an especially balanced and even tone. Two carefully placed bridges—crafted from hardwood and brass—create a smooth harmonic relationship between the lower and higher strings, allowing melodies and harmonies to speak with clarity and depth across the instrument’s full range.

Designed for Musical Precision and Growth

Unlike pentatonic lyres, a diatonic lyre includes half steps, offering a complete scale suitable for music lessons, ensemble playing, classroom instruction, and orchestral work. This makes it well suited for children who are ready to read music, practice intentional fingering, and explore more complex melodies.

The body of this diatonic lyre is the same instrument body used for Auris’s 12-string pentatonic lyre. For families or schools moving between developmental stages, the lyre may be re-strung with pentatonic strings if desired. Please note that string sets are sold separately.
