A Terrifying Tale from the Creators of Godzilla
Rodan, directed by Ishiro Honda and produced by Tomoyuki Tanaka, is Toho's first color kaiju picture released in 1956. The film follows the story of a giant Pteranodon rising from a deep underground cave after being disturbed by miners. Mutated to excessive size by nuclear radiation, Rodan soars above Kyushu, causing mayhem as the JSDF tries to protect the island from his rampage.
Iconic Score by Akira Ifukube
The great Akira Ifukube, who scored Godzilla, brings a solemn edge to Rodan's soundtrack, fitting it into the larger universe while giving it a unique character. The main theme features a malevolent low piano and brass phrase counterpointed with horns to create a howling menace. Beautiful but melancholy material represents the carnage Rodan brings, while an upbeat and jazzy march for the JDSF is featured in "Get Rodan".
