Professional-Grade Protection for the Real World

The Trekker is our most advanced overt stab-proof garment — a full weather coat engineered for professionals who work in high-risk environments and can't afford to look like they're wearing body armour. It looks like a premium outdoor jacket. It performs like pro-grade armour.

If you work door supervision, security patrol, event security, or any role that puts you outdoors and exposed — the Trekker solves a problem no other stab-proof coat does: it protects your neck and arms. The slash-proof collar and cut-resistant sleeves are armour where most vests leave you exposed.

What Makes the Trekker Different: Slash-Proof Where Others Aren't

Standard stab vests protect the torso. They stop at the collarbone and leave your arms bare. In a real knife attack, your instinct is to raise your arms to protect your head and neck — which means your forearms, upper arms, and neck become the first point of contact. Every forensic biomechanics study of knife attacks confirms this: the neck, shoulders, and arms are primary target zones (Bleetman et al., 2003).

The Trekker is the only ArmorLite product that addresses this directly:

  • Slash-proof collar — reinforced stand-up collar protects the carotid arteries and throat, the most vulnerable strike zone in any edged-weapon encounter
  • Cut-resistant sleeves — full-length arm protection that stops a blade before it reaches skin, so raising your arms to defend yourself doesn't leave them exposed
  • Full torso FlexGuard panel — same NIJ Level 1 certified protection as the rest of the FlexGuard line, covering heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys

Built for the Outdoors

Most stab vests are designed to be worn under clothing. The Trekker is the outer layer — which means it has to perform as a real jacket. It does:

  • Water-resistant shell — rain, sleet, and spray bead off the surface. You stay dry and the armour panel stays dry
  • Breathable construction — doesn't trap heat like a plastic poncho. Designed for full-shift wear in changing conditions
  • Full range of motion — the FlexGuard panel's overlapping carbon-fibre scales bend with your body, so you can drive, climb stairs, restrain, or run without fighting your own armour
  • Professional aesthetic — looks like a technical outdoor coat, not tactical gear. No MOLLE webbing, no camo, no "armed response" vibe. Just a clean, modern jacket that doesn't alarm the public

Certification & Protection Level

The Trekker is independently tested and certified to NIJ 0115.0 Level 1 (24 J) — the US National Institute of Justice standard for stab-resistant body armour. The panel is tested against both Edged Blade and Spike threat classes.

What NIJ Level 1 means in practice: the panel stops edged blade and spike threats at energy levels exceeding what approximately 85% of the adult male population can deliver in a single strike. The carbon-fibre scales blunt the blade tip on contact; the overlapping geometry means there are no exposed seams or weave gaps for a pointed threat to find.

For a technical explanation of how the scale architecture defeats blades differently than ballistic fabric, read our Stab Proof vs Bulletproof guide →

Overt vs Covert: Why Wear Visible Protection?

Overt armour (the Trekker — this page): Worn as your outer layer, visible to everyone. Best for roles where protection should be seen — door supervision (visible armour is a deterrent), security patrol, event security, and outdoor work where a jacket is practical anyway. The professional aesthetic means you look like staff, not a threat.

Covert armour (under clothing): Our Stealth Guard Covert Vest. Worn under a shirt, invisible to the public. Best for plainclothes security, delivery drivers, and everyday civilians who need protection without anyone knowing.

Both use the same FlexGuard scale architecture and NIJ Level 1 certification. The choice is about what you want the people around you to see — and what you want them not to see. For a detailed walkthrough, read our Stab Vest Buying Guide →

What About the Law?

Stab-proof body armour is legal to buy, own, and wear in the UK. No licence or permit is required. It is only classified as an offensive weapon if worn while committing a crime. For a full breakdown, read Are Stab Proof Vests Legal in the UK? →

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this jacket really stab-proof?
The Trekker is independently tested and certified to NIJ 0115.0 Level 1 (24 J) for both Edged Blade and Spike threats. No body armour is absolutely "proof" against every possible attack — that's why the standard specifies an energy level and threat class. Within those specifications — edged blade and spike strikes at up to 24 joules — the Trekker has been certified to stop penetration. For a detailed explanation of what certification means and how testing works, read our Stab Resistance Standards Guide →

Does the slash-proof collar actually work?
Yes. The collar is reinforced with the same cut-resistant material used in the sleeve lining. In controlled testing, it prevents blade contact with the neck and throat — the most vulnerable strike zone in any knife encounter. The collar is built into the jacket's structure, not an add-on, so it's always in position when you're wearing the coat.

Is this jacket too heavy for all-day wear?
The Trekker weighs approximately 2.0 kg including the outer shell — heavier than a standard coat but lighter than most protective jackets with comparable coverage. The FlexGuard panel's scale architecture flexes with your body rather than resisting it. Most wearers report that after the first shift, the weight distribution and mobility feel natural.

Does this stop bullets?
No. The Trekker is certified to NIJ 0115.0 for stab and spike protection only — it is not rated for ballistic threats. If you need protection against both knives and firearms, you need dual-threat armour certified to both NIJ 0115.0 (stab) and NIJ 0101.06 (ballistic). Our Engineer Stab-Proof Vest uses the same FlexGuard panel in a carrier that can accept ballistic plates.

Can I wear this in the rain?
Yes. The outer shell is water-resistant — rain and spray bead off rather than soaking through. The FlexGuard armour panel inside stays dry. For prolonged heavy downpour, pair with a waterproof overshell, but for typical UK weather — drizzle, light rain, wet conditions — the Trekker handles it on its own.

How do I know which size to order?
The Trekker is designed to fit over a standard shirt or light mid-layer. It runs true to jacket sizing — order your normal coat size. If you plan to layer heavily underneath (e.g., a thick sweater plus the coat), consider sizing up. Our size guide has detailed chest and length measurements for each size.

Waste of money...
The concept is interesting, however this particular product is a fail. There is not enough elastic/support and the seam by your toes moves quite a bit when you walk allowing the material to swallow your toes and can bunch up under the pad of your foot. Very uncomfortable and annoying. Don't waste your money, these socks belong in the trash!

This sock has a seem between 2 toes -very uncomfortable.
These are exactly the socks I needed to wear after breaking my foot, but there is a big, thick seam sewn in, between my big toe and the next toe. Extremely uncomfortable. I had to use a seam ripper to remove the threads on these socks, so I could wear them. We were leaving on a 4-week trip the next morning, I had no time to return them.

That they are not as they appear in photos.
The photos do not show that there is a section for the big toe and the rest is open. The photo shows as if the whole toe section is one opening instead of two. They work for what I want but just not what I thought they would be.

Not as pictured
The pictures make it seem like these are open all the way across. There are actually two holes. It is quite tight on the big toe. I will keep these, however I would not order these again.
