Totem KIN ONE Compact Bookshelf Speakers at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Totem KIN ONE is a passive 2-way compact bookshelf speaker from Totem Acoustic (Montreal, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Engineered and handcrafted in Canada, the KIN ONE pairs a proprietary 4-inch MHEX cone woofer with a 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter, covering a frequency response of 65 Hz to 22 kHz at 89 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms nominal impedance. Despite its compact 5.25-inch-wide cabinet, the KIN ONE projects a three-dimensional, holographic soundstage that extends beyond the physical speaker boundaries on both horizontal and vertical axes, a quality rooted in Totem's proprietary phase-linear crossover design. The KIN ONE accepts 20 to 100 watts RMS, pairs directly and optimally with the Totem KIN AMP, and can be wall-mounted via a built-in 1/4-20 threaded insert on the rear panel. It is available in five bold satin finishes with magnetic grilles included.

MHEX Woofer Technology and Phase-Linear Holographic Imaging

The KIN ONE's 4-inch woofer uses Totem's proprietary MHEX cone geometry: a hexagonal central core sandwiched between two synthetic outer surfaces that together create an exceptionally stiff yet lightweight diaphragm. The hexagonal core structure resists the cone breakup that conventional paper or plastic diaphragms exhibit at higher output levels, eliminating the jagged upper-frequency distortion that bleeds into the midrange and compromises tonal accuracy. The result is bass that Totem describes as powerful, fast, and musical from a cabinet just 9.5 inches tall. The 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter complements the MHEX woofer with extended, controlled high-frequency output, and Totem's carefully voiced crossover achieves phase linearity between the two drivers across the audible band. Phase linearity means both drivers arrive at the listening position in precise time alignment, which is the acoustic foundation of the KIN ONE's three-dimensional soundstage. Unlike many compact speakers that image only between their positions, the KIN ONE projects sound both between and beyond its cabinet boundaries on both the vertical and horizontal axes, a characteristic that makes it effective across a wide listening area rather than a narrow stereo sweet spot.

Wall-Mount Flexibility, Placement Versatility, and Amplifier Pairing

The KIN ONE is engineered for real-world placement flexibility. A 1/4-20 threaded insert is built into the rear panel of each speaker, enabling direct wall mounting with a compatible bracket and eliminating the need for dedicated speaker stands in rooms where wall installation is preferred. Totem recommends positioning wall-mounted KIN ONE speakers close to the ceiling to optimize vertical dispersion and the speakers' wide off-axis imaging behavior. For freestanding or shelf placement, Totem advises that positioning the pair closer together than convention might suggest can further enhance the immersive soundstage the MHEX driver and phase-linear crossover produce. The KIN ONE is a passive speaker requiring an external amplifier rated between 20 and 100 watts at 6 ohms. The Totem KIN AMP, a 2 x 100-watt Class D integrated amplifier with Bluetooth aptX HD, built-in MM phono stage, optical input, and variable subwoofer output, is the designated system partner and the combination for which the KIN ONE's sensitivity and impedance were optimized.

Key Features

  • Proprietary 4-Inch MHEX Cone Woofer: Hexagonal-core cone geometry sandwiched between two synthetic surfaces creates an extremely stiff, low-mass diaphragm that eliminates upper-frequency breakup and delivers fast, articulate bass from a compact cabinet.
  • 1-Inch Titanium-Infused Soft Dome Tweeter: Titanium-reinforced dome driver for extended, smooth high-frequency output with wide horizontal and vertical dispersion, maintaining tonal consistency across a broad listening area.
  • Phase-Linear 3D Holographic Imaging: Totem's time-aligned crossover achieves precise driver integration, projecting a soundstage that extends beyond the physical speaker positions in all directions rather than only between them.
  • Wide Axis Dispersion: The KIN ONE images consistently on both vertical and horizontal axes, providing a large, stable listening sweet spot suited to shared listening environments, desktop use, and rooms where seated positioning varies.
  • Wall-Mountable with Built-In 1/4-20 Thread: Rear-panel threaded insert enables direct wall mounting with a compatible bracket, with Totem recommending near-ceiling placement for optimal dispersion.
  • Optimized KIN AMP Pairing: Designed and voiced specifically for use with the Totem KIN AMP, which delivers 2 x 100 watts at 6 ohms with Bluetooth aptX HD, MM phono stage, optical input, and subwoofer output in a single compact chassis.
  • Passive Design, 20 to 100W RMS: Compatible with any stereo amplifier or AV receiver rated between 20 and 100 watts per channel at 6 ohms, including integrated amplifiers from NAD, Cambridge Audio, and Audiolab.
  • Engineered and Handcrafted in Canada: Designed, assembled, and quality-controlled in Montreal by Totem Acoustic, with all drivers proprietary to Totem and manufactured to Totem's specified tolerances.
  • Five Satin Finish Options: Available in Satin Black, Satin White, Satin Pink, Satin Orange, and Satin Blue with matching magnetic grilles included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Totem KIN ONE speaker?

The Totem KIN ONE is a passive 2-way compact bookshelf speaker handcrafted in Canada by Totem Acoustic, Montreal. It features a proprietary 4-inch MHEX cone woofer and a 1-inch titanium-infused soft dome tweeter, with a frequency response of 65 Hz to 22 kHz at 89 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms nominal impedance. It is a passive speaker requiring an external amplifier rated at 20 to 100 watts per channel, and is designed and optimized for use with the Totem KIN AMP integrated amplifier.

How does the Totem KIN ONE compare to the Klipsch RP-600M II or Q Acoustics 3020i?

The Totem KIN ONE occupies a distinct position against passive bookshelf speakers such as the Klipsch RP-600M II and Q Acoustics 3020i. The Klipsch RP-600M II uses a Tractrix Horn tweeter and larger 6.5-inch woofer for high efficiency and forward projection, suited to larger rooms and higher-powered receivers. The Q Acoustics 3020i is a straightforward 2-way design in a larger cabinet with a 5-inch woofer, prioritizing neutrality at modest volumes. The KIN ONE differentiates itself through the proprietary MHEX cone woofer geometry, phase-linear crossover alignment, and a holographic imaging behavior that extends beyond the speaker boundaries on both axes, characteristics uncommon at this cabinet size. Its 89 dB sensitivity and wall-mount capability also give it a practical versatility that neither competitor matches.

Does the Totem KIN ONE require a specific amplifier?

The KIN ONE is a passive speaker compatible with any stereo amplifier or AV receiver rated at 20 to 100 watts per channel into 6 ohms. It is designed and voiced specifically to pair with the Totem KIN AMP, a 2 x 100-watt Class D integrated amplifier with Bluetooth aptX HD, built-in MM phono stage, optical input, and variable subwoofer output. The KIN AMP and KIN ONE are sold together as the KIN AMP and KIN ONE Combo at Vinyl Sound, providing a complete matched system in a single purchase. The KIN ONE also pairs well with compact integrated amplifiers from NAD, Cambridge Audio, and Audiolab in the 50 to 100-watt range.

What is MHEX cone technology in the KIN ONE woofer?

MHEX is Totem Acoustic's proprietary woofer cone geometry used in the KIN ONE. The cone consists of a hexagonal central core sandwiched between two synthetic outer surfaces, producing a diaphragm that is significantly stiffer and lighter than conventional paper or polypropylene cones of the same diameter. This elevated stiffness raises the cone's natural breakup frequency well above the audible range, which means the woofer reproduces bass and midrange frequencies without the added coloration and harshness that cone breakup introduces. Combined with Totem's phase-linear crossover, the MHEX driver is the primary contributor to the KIN ONE's phase-coherent, three-dimensional soundstage presentation.

Can the Totem KIN ONE be wall-mounted?

Yes, each KIN ONE speaker has a 1/4-20 threaded insert built into the rear panel, which accepts a compatible wall-mount bracket for direct wall installation without separate speaker stands. Totem recommends positioning wall-mounted KIN ONE speakers close to the ceiling to take full advantage of the speakers' wide vertical and horizontal dispersion. This makes the KIN ONE well-suited for kitchen, office, bedroom, and living room wall installations where floor and furniture space is at a premium.

What is the difference between the Totem KIN ONE sold here and the KIN ONE in the KIN AMP combo?

The KIN ONE speaker is identical in both listings. This page offers the KIN ONE bookshelf speakers as a standalone pair for customers who already own a compatible amplifier or who wish to pair the speakers with a different amplifier than the KIN AMP. The KIN AMP and KIN ONE Combo listing available at Vinyl Sound bundles the same KIN ONE speakers with the Totem KIN AMP integrated amplifier, speaker wire, aluminum remote, and power cord as a complete ready-to-play system.

Where can I buy the Totem KIN ONE speakers in Toronto or Canada?

Beyond my expectations…
Scent: Incredible 10/10. The entire shower smells like a spa afterwards. Woody notes, vanilla scent is deliciously heavy and warm, and even one pump delivers a punch of fresh vanilla scent to your entire body. I’m a woman who is in love with heavy earthy scents and this is it! P.S it also matches well with scents like vanilla, cocoa butter, chocolate, or even delicious “smore” scents! I pair it with vanilla and cocoa butter scented deodorant, vanilla perfume, or vanilla body lotion and it works amazing! Longevity: Lasts the entire day if I’m staying home just relaxing, not working out or sweating very much. I could shower in the early morning and by the time my head hits the pillow I still smell it faintly! If I’m out and about it still lasts hours I’d estimate around 6-8 hours before the scent fades! If I shower at 6am, come home at 5pm-6pm after work I still smell fresh! (I always shower 2x a day but you don’t even need to with this! Value for Money/Size: Oh absolutely! I think I bought this soap two weeks ago? Used it nearly every day, and you can’t even tell! One pump is enough, two pumps MAX per shower per day. I decided to lavish myself by buying this soap, because it’s a bit more pricey. But it’s actually saving me more money, at this rate I’ll be buying another one of these every 3 months! So that’s…4 times a year? 5 max? That’s incredible. I’ll probably stick with Cremo for life honestly. And I’m a woman!💕🎀

High Quality and Smells Great!
This is so far superior to the standard soaps that you buy off the shelf in a supermarket. It creates a truly luxurious lather and smells fantastic without being obnoxious or perfume.

A major upgrade from standard drugstore brands—sophisticated scent & better lather.
I have been a long-time user of standard body washes (think Old Spice, Axe, or Dove Men), but I kept seeing hype about Cremo and decided to see if it was worth the slightly higher price tag. After using the 32oz Spice & Black Vanilla for a week, I can confidently say this is a massive upgrade for your shower routine. Here is how it stacks up against the typical grocery store brands: 1. The Scent is on another level: Most cheaper washes smell like generic "Sport" or "Ocean" cologne. This scent is much more complex and earthy. Top Notes: It starts with a sharp, spicy kick (that's the cardamom). Finish: It settles into a smooth, warm vanilla and tobacco scent. It smells more like a high-end department store fragrance than a soap. Staying Power: The scent actually lingers. If you shower in the morning, you will still catch subtle hints of the warm spices for a few hours, which pairs really well with woody colognes. 2. Performance & Feel: The consistency is thicker than what I'm used to. You only need one solid pump to get a rich lather with a loofah. Crucially, it rinses clean without leaving that "squeaky" residue that dries out your skin, but it also doesn't leave a slick oily film like some ultra-moisturizing washes do. It hits a perfect balance. 3. Value: The 32oz bottle is substantial. Because the gel is concentrated, I expect this bottle to last 3-4 months easily, making the cost per ounce very reasonable compared to buying smaller bottles of cheaper stuff every few weeks. Pros: Sophisticated, "grown-up" scent profile. High-quality pump (sturdy, doesn't clog). Non-drying formula is great for colder months. Cons: Potency: The scent is strong. If you are sensitive to fragrance or prefer unscented products, this might be overwhelming. The bathroom will smell like it for a good 20 minutes after you're done (which I enjoy, but keep it in mind). Verdict: This bridges the gap between basic hygiene and luxury grooming. If you are tired of smelling like "Blue Sport" and want something warmer and more refined for the fall/winter, this is absolutely worth the switch.

It smells as good as my cologne.
I never go out without a shot of Guerlain L'Homme Idéal L'Intense cologne. Guerlain does not offer a layered line of products with similar scents. I wanted a deodorant and body wash to match. None of the Old Spice scents came close. Axe Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla antiperspirant has more vanilla and is a bit subdued but works. Finding a body wash was harder. Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla Body Wash sounded promising, but I was apprehensive about its scent including tobacco. I did not want to smell like an ashtray. But when I opened the bottle, I was met with a surprising scent from the past. I immediately recognized it as premium Danish pipe tobacco. Most people do not recognize this aromatic scent as coming from tobacco at all. In fact, it smells more like fresh cured tobacco itself, not its smoke. This adds a very pleasant and masculine smell to the body wash on top of the spice, wood, and vanilla scent I was searching for. The scent only lasts a few hours after you rinse off. One push on the dispenser puts enough soap on a shower loofah to wash your whole body. I do not rinse off my loofah; I squeeze the soap out of it to wash my face, then I place it back in its tray next to the bottle. The scent of the remaining soap acts like incense until my next shower. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this body soap has a rich lather and cleans as well as advertised. I had forgotten the reason I bought the body soap until I used it.
