An ever-curious and innovative mindset led the SEVENFRIDAY team to abandon what we understand under watchmaking and embrace the future! The first FREE D burst into the market like a meteor, and its unique design, paired with the characteristics of the material, made it a crowd favorite. Now, the time has come for the FREE D.

The FREE D series's appeal starts with the material's sustainability and innovative nature. The PA11 & PA12 used to print the timepieces was consciously chosen due to its unique properties. This material may be new in the world of watches, but it has been tested, proven, and used for a while in the medical, aerospace, and racing sectors.

The popularity of this polyamide comes down to this: it is light, durable, and yet very flexible. For these reasons, it is equally suitable for producing medical instruments and constructing an intricate watch. Equally important is the sustainability of the PA11, a characteristic SEVENFRIDAY valued in their search for new construction possibilities.

The versatility of the material and its endless possibilities were big advantages in the design of the FREE D.

The material provided the perfect blank canvas for innovative design and ideas others would consider crazy. The inspiration behind the design is instinctive and visible. A futuristic approach to an amalgamation of vegetal and animal. Reminiscent of an insect, the ‘shell’ of the FREE D, produced in one part and snapped into place, protects the dial and movement. Not only is the design inspired by shapes we see in nature, but its look reflects the organic nature of the material.

It is evident that the medium plays a significant role in the product design; the inspiration behind the FREE D is the process of printing and the properties of the PA11 and PA12. Using this unconventional method, SEVENFRIDAY created a design that could never be executed with traditional materials. The FREE D is a fascinating leap into the future but, nonetheless, instantly recognizable as a product of the SEVENFRIDAY universe.

Moreover, as the vibrant history of SEVENFRIDAY shows, the brand has always loved working with color. The FREE D is available in white, turquoise, and pink. As is the case for previous series and collections, the colors were chosen partly due to their symbolism and the feelings they evoke. White is purity and innocence, turquoise is success and good fortune, and pink is love and compassion.

The release of the FREE D B will be limited to 30 pieces per color.

Installing was very easy pretty much securing the base with the hardware provided. And securing the base to the shelf itself. I'm very happy with the quality and also the strength of the shelf. Even with a good tug it was very tight. Maybe some longer screws would be more secure but I think the ones provided were good enough.

Good looking shelves and easy install - skip the included drywall anchors

I installed these shelves in a bedroom to get things off my dresser and some decor. Once mounted they look really nice. The black finish looks clean and modern and they blend in well with the room. Installation was pretty straightforward. The metal bracket mounts to the wall first and then the shelf slides over the bracket. As long as you take your time lining things up it’s a simple project. One thing I strongly recommend is not using the white plastic self-drilling drywall anchors that come with the kit. I’ve used that style before on other projects and they tend to strip out easily and leave larger holes in drywall. I used better anchors instead and the shelves mounted much more securely. The rest of the hardware worked fine and once installed the shelves feel solid and hold items well. Pros - Clean modern look - Easy installation - Feels solid once mounted - Good size for books or decor Cons - The small level included isn’t very accurate — use your own level - One of the metal brackets was slightly bent out of the box but straightened out easily Helpful tip: Use your own level and better drywall anchors if you have them. It makes installation easier and the shelves will mount much more securely. Final thoughts: For the price these are nice looking floating shelves that install easily and work well for light storage and decor.
