With 90–100 pieces per bale, the average cost works out to approximately ±R44 per jacket.

The resale strategy with this bale is to:

• Aim to sell at least 80 jackets

• Target an average selling price of ±R120 per jacket

This is achieved by selling:

• You will find a few dirty or faulty items

The Pick & Choose process

The most important part of working with a 45kg bale is following the Pick & Choose process:

1. Steam all items immediately after opening the bale

2. Steaming allows you to:

   • Spot dirt or damage more easily

   • See the true value of each jacket

3. Sort items into:

   • Ready-to-sell

   • Needs washing

   • Needs minor repairs

4. Wash dirty items and repair minor faults (either yourself or via a local seamstress)

5. Bring all stock back together once cleaned and fixed

6. Do your market research:

   • Compare local selling prices

   • Check original retail prices where possible

   • Price accordingly (often a fraction of original retail)
