We have had a long relationship with the grower of this Clone 548 Chardonnay from the Matawhero sub district of Gisborne. After a light set in our Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay crop we were lucky to secure a parcel of fruit to make this Chardonnay. The vines are dry farmed which gives a naturally low yield and were harvested in pristine condition.
The fruit was harvested and pressed quickly with minimal winemaking intervention to preserve fruit flavour. Once clear juice is racked off, a combination of selected and wild yeast is used for fermentation. Maturation in barrel on light yeast lees adds texture and flavour which is balanced by fresh natural acidity from the grapes. Bottled under screw cap to maintain freshness and integrity of the wine through to your glass.
