Stitch-resist in midori shibori pattern

Technique: Nui-Midori Tatsumaki Shibori: A special technique recently created by an Arimatsu artisan, which combines both nui shibori and tatsumaki process to create tesuji midori shibori that is difficult to achieve. Originally tesuji shibori (hand pleating with or without a rope core) was used to create midori shibori; here, however, parallel running stitches applied weft-wise in certain placement produce puckers so that a dark-colored leaf pattern appears after a tatsumaki resist (binding resist over a long suji shibori-shaped cloth).  Process illustrations are from the book “Shibori: The Inventive Art of Japanese Shaped Resist Dyeing”  by Wada, Rice, and Barton.
