You must not approach when birds are known to be nesting.

This area has an open side access and an overwintering chamber ready to fill with bark, straw or leaves.

The Solitary Bee Study Chamber features removable trays for the study of developing solitary bees. Solitary bees do not swarm, are non aggressive and SAFE around CHILDREN and PETS.  Ideally this chamber should be sited to catch the morning sun.

 The Mason Bee (mud) and the Megachile Bee (leaf circles) will fill the chambers in Spring and Summer. The cell formation is fascinating and the eggs will develop over the winter into larvae and then bees. It is best to close the trays after viewing and to restrict the opening of the trays to a maximum of 30 minutes.

Once used this solitary bee area will be regularly filled, the trays can easily be cleaned after emergence of the bees but the solitary bees will clean the chambers themselves at the start of the new season. Because of the solid, well designed construction this unit can be left out over winter.  The Red Mason Bee (UK), Blue Orchard Bee (USA) and Megachile Bee (UK) are ESSENTIAL POLLINATORS for fruit, vegetables, herbs etc

Siting and Maintenance  

To maintain the green finish a water based green paint may be applied  and clear wood can be treated with a water based sealer as required. Replacement wooden tubes and paper bee lining tubes may purchased for advanced bee management. 

This Bird Bee and Insect Hotel should be sited about 1 - 2 meters high in a warm sheltered position, ideally where it can catch the morning sun. 

Important Information: These products are for wild creatures and as such, you should not expect immediate habitation. We suggest you carefully read the supplied instructions for siting and provide this product in a suitable habitat for the target species. The product can then be re-visited 6 - 12 months later, or in the appropriate season, to see if it is being used.

If after 24 months the product has not been used, it may be worth choosing an alternative location to site it and/or look to see what improvements you can make to provide a suitable environment for your target species (flowers, woodpiles, rough areas of garden etc) 

Because many species of creature are constantly seeking refuge and safe nesting sites, you may find that an unexpected species is using your product - this is part of nature and all species should be welcomed as part of your wildlife garden.
