Coltrane Jazz, the second studio album for Atlantic Records released by John Coltrane, featured a rotating cast of his former Miles Davis bandmates and early touring quartet lineup. Building on the innovations of its predecessor, Coltrane Jazz (January 1961) shows him working with greater openness and flow. Featuring the fluid motion of "Like Sonny" and the contemplative phrasing of "Village Blues," it offers early glimpses of the sound Coltrane would soon achieve with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones—the classic quartet that would define the remainder of his Atlantic years.

Celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2026, this new Coltrane Jazz (Mono) LP is a breakout from the forthcoming Rhino High-Fidelity box set entitled John Coltrane: 1960-1964. All lacquers are AAA cut directly from the mono tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl by Optimal, with meticulous detailing on the album packaging that includes glossy covers and "tip-on" jackets.
