St James was an original disciple (and possibly a cousin) of Jesus. So this cross has Christian overtones. James is believed to be buried in Santiago de Compostela and, since the Middle Ages, countless pilgrims have visited his tomb - hence the making of The Way of Saint James (El Camino).
