Formation & Characteristics
Ocean Jasper is a rare variety of Jasper (silicon dioxide mineral) within the Quartz family, defined by circular orbicular patterns that appear in multiple colors. This example from Marovato, Ambolobozo, Analalava District, Sofia Region, Mahajanga Province, Madagascar, is associated with a cliff-base locality accessible by boat at low tide. Mining ceased in 2006 due to depletion and safety concerns; today material is limited to back stock and dedicated collections. The piece presents a polished finish and a twist-flame carving, preserving the stone's natural orbicular texture.
