According to Davies and Abram, the culture of betting results from two complementary influences in American society: risk taking and speculation. This is the first effort by academic writers to describe and interpret the history of sports wagering in the United States. Although many books have been written about "how to bet and win," Betting the Line presents a serious history of this popular activity, from the colonial and Civil War eras to today, from early betting on horse racing and baseball to the modern venues of basketball and football. By considering topics as diverse as the business of a bookie, the expansion of legalized gambling, and the increase in popularity of televised sports, the authors offer readers an insightful look into a practice that has become commonplace in American popular culture. In a mere seventy years, the number of states where gambling is legal jumped from one to forty-eight. Yet Nevada remains the only state where sports betting is legal. This book challenges many long-standing myths and stereotypes that revolve around the enterprise, arguing that sports gambling is reflective of the American free enterprise culture. Blending historical facts with interesting tidbits and anecdotes, this lively book both engages and informs. Love it!

I am a cheapskate and try hard to find bargains, but i have no problem with paying this price for a quality piece of clothing! Loving the fit and especially the lavender color. Very classy wearing it fully buttoned or open collared. Looks and feels great!! I like this so much I bought the Aqua stripe and green stripe also!

Very solid option for comfort but the pattern of the shirt I received was off-putting

The shirt itself is great, sizing is spot on with an athletic tapered fit which I always prefer in a polo. The material is classic maelreg cotton feeling without the heaviness and water holding of typical cotton shirts. You can run in these polos, workout, go out to lunch or dinner, or simply sleep in these they are so comfortable. It's the patterns offered that made me return this and another I tried out. Colors are spot on with descriptions but the patters are small enough to play tricks on eyes, I received complaints from both my wife and daughter (separately) about the pattern hurting their eyes hence the 4 star instead of 5. Others may love the patter but know that it isn't as universally pleasing as more other shirts offered by this brand

Looks decent, doesn’t cook me in summer

Bought this mainly as another golf shirt and wasn’t expecting much. Material is lightweight and comfortable enough during warmer days. Fit was pretty close to expected sizing.
Sometimes inexpensive golf shirts end up feeling stiff or cheap after washing. This one has held up fine so far. Good everyday option.
