Original Chromolithograph

London, 1904
39.8 cm x 24.8 cm (sheet)

A portrait of the jockey Herbert Jones wearing the racing colours of the British monarch. Lettered beneath the image "a King's jockey" and with the publication details "VANITY FAIR" top left; "Septr. 29th. 1904" top right; "Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Lt.d Lith." lower left. Signed with Roland L'Estrange's "AO" monogram (within the image).

Originally appeared as "Men of the Day. No. 932 - HERBERT JONES" in Vanity Fair 29th September 1904.

Herbert Jones was apprenticed as a jockey at the age of ten and rode his first winner at sixteen. In 1900 he won the "Triple Crown" when he rode the Prince of Wales's (later King Edward VII) horse "Diamond Jubilee" to victory in the three Classic British horseraces of that year: 2,000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and St. Leger. He was known from then on as " "Diamond Jubilee Jones" and became the King's preferred jockey. He won numerous other Classics but, sadly, is most often recalled as being the jockey who was on-board King George V's horse "Anmer" in the fatal incident involving the suffragette protester Emily Davison at the Epsom Derby of 1913. During that year's race "Anmer" ran down Emily Davison on Tattenham Corner and she later died of her injuries (Jones himself was unsaddled and injured in the event).

Roland Styleman L'Estrange, F.S.A., J.P., D.L. (1869-1919) was, primarily, an aristocratic Norfolk landowner.  He was also a gifted amateur artist who produced a number of accomplished caricatures for Vanity Fair which were published under his pseudonym "Armadillo" or "AO".

Average pillow that might be great for some folks, not for me
Color: White, Size: Queen (Pack of 2)
I should have know this would be like every other pillow I've ever ordered. It's too puffy for me. No give. It claims to offer better support for side sleepers but instead it's giving me kinks in my neck. Not for me. Not adjustable. Not versatile. Standard materials. White. Can't speak to washability and durability as I have had it long and haven't washed it. fair price for two standard pillows. I really wish all these bedding companies would stop rolling and vacuum sealing pillows and such.

Comfortable pillows
Color: White, Size: Standard (Pack of 2)
These pillows are great. Not too soft or to hard. They need to be in the dryer for about 15 minutes to fluff up. Perfect buy!
