Death on the Prairie: The Thirty Years' Struggle for the Western PlainsDeath on the Prairie is a sweeping narrative history of the Indian wars on the western plains that never loses sight of the individual actors. Beginning with the Minnesota Sioux Uprising in 1862, Paul I. Wellman shifts to conflicts in present day Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, and South Dakota, involving, most spectacularly, the Sioux, but also the Cheyennes, Arapahos, Comanches, Kiowas, Utes, and Nez Perces all being ezed out
Death on the Prairie is a sweeping narrative history of the Indian wars on the western plains that never loses sight of the individual actors. Beginning with the Minnesota Sioux Uprising in 1862, Paul I. Wellman shifts to conflicts in present-day Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, and South Dakota, involving, most spectacularly, the Sioux, but also the Cheyennes, Arapahos, Comanches, Kiowas, Utes, and Nez Perces--all being ezed out of their hunting grounds by white settlers. There is never a quiet page as Wellman describes the Sand Creek Massacre (1864), the Fetterman Massacre (1866), the Battle of the Washita (1868), the Battle of Adobe Walls (1874), the Battle of the Little Big Horn (1876), the Nez Perce War (1877), the Meeker Massacre (1879), and the tragedy at wounded Knee (1890) that ended the fighting on the plains. Celebrated chiefs (Red Cloud, Crazy Horse, Black Kettle, Satanta, Joseph, Ouray, Sitting Bull) clash with army officers (notably Custer, Sheridan, Miles, and Crook), and uncounted men, women, and children on both sides are cast in roles of fatal consequence.Binding Type: Paperback

Double check sizing
Too big for my toddler, recommend sizing down. Quality is good if the fit is good.

Sizing
These were cute unfortunately way too big. The sizing thing is really off.

Yay!
My baby recently needed new socks, and I was looking based on three thing:
- will they stay up
- do they have traction
- do they dig in and leave those awful red marks on him
These socks not only have the stretch spot at the top like most socks, but they also have a stretchy spot at the ankle. So, yes, they stay on! Hallelujah! This also keeps them from digging in an extra lot at the top, so they're not messing up his circulation.
The brand stamp on the bottom offers a little traction, but it's not exactly what I would call 'having traction.' Of course, most babies of my son's age don't actually need it, but I feel like that last little bit would take these socks over the top.
Bonus - they're not cheap and falling apart, and they've got a nice knit to them. They're light. They're airy. They're great summer socks. They fit easily into soft shoes. Don't buy these as heavy winter socks. Heading into summer, though, I'm quite certain we'll be getting plenty of use out of these.
