Probiotics are now recognized beyond yogurts or dietary supplements for humans—they have become an essential part of ornamental fish nutrition. Since 2016, the intestinal flora stabilizer Bacillus velezensis (previously known as B. subtilis) has been approved for inclusion in ornamental fish feed, receiving explicit endorsement from the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) to enhance growth and feed efficiency.
sera was the pioneer to respond swiftly in 2016 by introducing an innovative probiotic koi food: “Koi All Seasons Probiotic.” As part of the brand's rebranding initiative, the name was updated to “Koi Professional Probiotic.”
Koi Professional Probiotic is ideal for year-round feeding of koi when water temperatures exceed 8 °C. The specially co-extruded granules include not only the natural, functional components that are typical of sera, such as MOS, beta-glucans, Haematococcus algae, spirulina, and more, but also the probiotic Bacillus velezensis, which supports the fish's intestinal flora. This enhances their overall health and boosts feed efficiency. As a result, koi grow rapidly and uniformly, while the water remains less polluted by harmful waste and algae-promoting substances. To reap these benefits throughout the year, this specialized food should replace seasonal diets several times a week, as long as water temperatures are above 8 °C. It also serves excellently as a primary food source.
Koi Professional line
Within the Koi Professional line, sera provides high-quality food options tailored to the unique needs of cold-blooded fish during various seasons (spring & fall, summer, winter). Additionally, there are two functional food options, Koi Professional Color and Probiotic, which are suitable for year-round feeding. Koi Professional Junior has been specifically formulated to cater to the dietary requirements of young Koi.

Fish meal, corn starch, wheat flour, wheat gluten, fish oil (4%), krill oil (3%), spirulina, brewer's yeast, wheat germ, Ca-caseinate, mannan oligosaccharides (0.4%), krill meal, gammarus meal, green-lipped mussel meat meal, nettle, alfalfa, Haematococcus algae, parsley, seaweed meal, peppers, spinach, carrots, garlic, fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, aniseed.
