Cassette version. Coming together over three years since his critically acclaimed last album (2013), Hyetal completes his transformation from off-kilter dance music producer to futurist pop visionary on Youth & Power. "Previously my approach to writing music was very rooted in escapism," says David Corney, aka Hyetal. "I began experiencing a sense of detachment in my life which led me to question how healthy this approach was. I wanted music to help me feel connected again." Wrenching his music free from the "confines of computer grids" and pushing melody to the forefront, Youth & Power's texturally rich, psychedelic palette is littered with live played synths, electric guitars, drum machines, processed noise, and "some under-loved '70s home keyboards" recorded at Hyetal's South London home studio. "I'd describe it as experimental pop music," says Hyetal, "the sound is in part a return to music I was listening to as a kid, more song- and instrument-based." Youth & Power is Hyetal's debut as a vocalist, also scrapping samples in favor of live instrumentation and hook-laden songwriting laced with myriad influences. "I took some time out to teach myself how to sing using an app on my phone. At first I found my vocals worked best for me when there was some distance from the natural sound of my voice so everything was abstracted through a few different processes." he explains, "As I became more comfortable singing I decided I wanted to contrast this approach and use some natural sounding vocals that embraced the imperfections." The album strikes a balance between robotic Kraftwerkian simplicity and soulful organic pop, contrasting the various pitch-shifting and abstracting vocal effects with sharply concise lyrics. Semblances of Hyetal's origins in Bristol's early dubstep movement are still present too, deep inside the album's meticulous rhythm beds. Elsewhere, chiming retro keyboard notes and drum machine beats at times recall the likes of Yellow Magic Orchestra contrasting against waves of guitars and noise which bring to mind the influence of Bauhaus and other post punk experimentalists. Written as a form of catharsis for Hyetal in his search to return his music from detachment, Youth & Power seeps a sense of hope. "I found from a distance the most immediate workings of humanity can appear extremely brutal," says Hyetal, "but when looking through this lens you miss the beauty that happens in the moment."

Easy and exciting
Format: Paperback

I didn't know that this book was the third part of the Campus Police series. But it reads well as a stand-alone book. The first two books are about the other two couples who also appear here.
This time, the story revolves around Cappy, who is back after a few weeks away and her grandfather's funeral, and Jazz, a librarian with a special flair for decorating her office. In this short time, a lot has changed in Cappy's personal life, and she has to get used to it all again.
Brian, a talented football player who was forced to completely change his life after a traffic accident, is found dead. Initially, it is classified as suicide, but Jazz insists on a more thorough investigation of the case, as she is convinced that Brian was looking forward to the future despite adverse circumstances. Cappy is assigned to determine whether it was a crime. The interviews Cappy conducted to uncover all the circumstances and background information were interesting. However, I found it a little strange that a civilian was allowed to attend these interviews.
Jazz and Cappy have mutual friends who are all professionally involved with the campus. The banter between them is amusing, and the romance between Cappy and Jazz is nice and sweet.
An easy-to-read book with amusing and likable characters, good and witty dialogue, and some suspense.

Very enjoyable read.
Format: Kindle
I believe this is the third installment of the ‘ University Police Series’ and the best part of a series like this is the reader gets to meet up with the cast of characters from Ms Walsh’s first two books.
The first book introduced us to a group of professors, four to be exact and in each book we get to read about romance and crime.. The University Campus Police are the ones these professor’s turn to when there is unfortunately a murder on campus.
This time it’s Professor Jazz Harald that seeks the help of the police when one of the students she knows has decided to end his own life. Jazz doesn’t believe the police reports so she reaches out to the campus police, Officer Cappy Flannery. Cappy has read the report herself, even visited the apartment where the young student lived. She agrees with the report but she also reluctantly agrees with Jazz the case should be investigated.
If you have read the first two books then you’re in for a treat, if you hadn’t read the first two books you might find yourself lost because Walsh brings in everyone or so it seems from the two stories. It might be a good idea to read the first two. Very enjoyable read.

Good book
Format: Kindle
This is the third book in the series. In this installment, Cappy investigates the suicide of the star football player. Jazz, the librarian and a member of Libby's friend group, does not believe it was a suicide and is assisting Cappy with the investigation. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first two; the pace was slow at the beginning, but it improved towards the end. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order. Overall, I would still recommend this book.
I received an arc

Wonderful read.
Format: Kindle
What a wonderful story. Nora and Fallon were meant to be together, although it took them forever to figure it out. The MC’s were well developed and described, and the scenery was detailed beautifully. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it certainly won’t be the last. Well done.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Second-chance, slow-burn sapphic romance
Format: Paperback
"Firecamp" by Jaycie Morrison is a second-chance sapphic romance that includes an emotionally-charged slow burn romance and a time-jump.
MCs Nora and Fallon come from very different circumstances, but are thrown together along with six other women at Firecamp where they all must work to help mitigate wildfires. Both emotionally immature and carrying their own baggage, Nora and Fallon's young romance ends with a bang. Ten years later, with their careers leading the way, they are forced back together. What follows is a slow burn, second-chance romance that is less naive but no less passionate.
This was my first book by Jaycie Morrison, but it definitely won't be my last. I really enjoyed the way she developed Nora & Fallon independently and together as well as the "side action" that we saw with Nora's family, especially her younger brother Tyler. I was initially drawn to the story because it was set in the Colorado wildfire scene & I loved how that was portrayed.
Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the eARC.
