Description

Firework"To borrow Rakim's words, this book is 'a sack of dynamite, powerful and bright.' It's a grimly exciting report of the street level world, a lyric highway story that pops with real American voices and roars with an underground river of criminal menace, a strange captivating work of the imagination, original and great." Atticus Lish "Firework is about the gorgeous plasticity of the American language. It's about motiveless malevolence and the human want

"Firework is about the gorgeous plasticity of the American language. It's about motiveless malevolence and the human want to flee. It's about Jelonnek, and there isn't any figuring Jelonnek. He's a prisoner and a security guard, a good Samaritan and a creep. Jelonnek will never leave you. Lucky you, lucky us, to have his wild tale in our hands." --Noy Holland

"There is nothing quite like the controlled burn of Eugene Marten's prose." --Sam Lipsyte

"An explosive road novel." -Vanity Fair

Firework is the story of a man who, though ill-equipped to help himself, attempts to help someone else, and the beautifully rendered, perhaps necessary catastrophe that results. Unequaled in intensity and often blackly humorous, it is also an exhilarating expression of the all too human impulse to become more than what we seem to be.

Eugene Marten is the author of In the Blind, Waste, and Layman's Report.

Best Guide Ever!
Format: Hardcover
Comic Book Guy's book of pop culture is a hilarious read. Get in the know with Film, sci-fi, gaming, and of course, comics. Read all about a typical day in the life of comic book guy and learn his all time favorite quotes. Take a look at how to run your own comic book shop. Look at CBG places to be such as gaming tournaments, parent's basement, and baseball card convention. Learn the 15 types of moviegoers. A roll-on-the-floor-laughing book for not only for Simpson's fans but comic book fans as well. I highly, highly recommend it.

A Poetic Parable of Silence and Resistance
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky's Deaf Republic is a haunting narrative of political turmoil and collective silence, where a community's deafness becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through lyrical verse, Kaminsky weaves a tale of love, loss, and resistance, capturing the profound consequences of political violence on ordinary lives. This collection is a poignant testament to the resilience of the human spirit amidst oppression and serves as a stark reminder of our moral responsibilities in troubled times.

One of the most original and moving books of poems I've ever read
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky is practically a legend, at this point, and deservedly so. This is his second book of poems, and proves well worth the wait. The individual poems are beautiful and strange; together, they comprise a kind of allegory for our times, and manage to be both somehow light-of-heart, somehow luminous, and also seriously profound. I would recommend this book even to those who don't usually read poetry, because it's beyond poetry, truly.
