Caring for our family members, friends, and others is a central part of a rewarding life. For those in healing and helping professions such as medicine, nursing, education, psychotherapy, social work, ministry, and the military, the potential for a meaningful way of being may even become more possible. But, compassion is not easy. At times, concern for others can be personally devastating when we don't possess the right attitude and approach. Reaching out (and reflectively within) without being pulled down requires the wisdom that only arises out of the right combination of humility and knowledge. Night Call offers the stories and principles gleaned over many years of writing and mentoring for those in the helping and healing professions. The stories are offered in ways that foster compassionate caring while encouraging initiative in those who seek to personally deepen and share their lives with others -- especially in times of significant need. With this in mind, Dr. Wicks presents information on: being a healing presence
mining fruits of the failures all of us must experience at times
the need to enjoy the daily "crumbs of alonetime"
the importance of a spirit of "unlearning"
developing a simple realistic self-care program
 valuing informal or formal mentoring
recognizing the "3 calls" to which we must respond to as we psychologically develop
honoring life's most elusive psychological virtue (humility) Purposely brief, the chapters, as well as the sections in the "personal resiliency retreat" section at the end of the book, have as their goal a reconsideration of values, signature strengths, and simple approaches to living a resilient, rewarding life. Rather than presenting new breakthroughs, Night Call is designed to dust off what most of us already know, at some level, so we can freshly view the key approaches and techniques that provide increased psychological self-awareness and a potentially healthier sense of presence to others. The themes offered may have been forgotten, or become undervalued/set aside because of some of society's dysfunctional norms or unhelpful family influences. In response, this simple, countercultural book combines the value of essential self-compassion with caring for others in ways that provide the impetus for further exploration of a fuller narrative for both the readers of this work and unforeseen opportunities as well for those who are fortunate enough to cross their paths.

The Father's Intense Love and Forgiveness
Format: Paperback
Chiqui Wood shows how our heavenly Father is driven with intense love and forgiveness to see His creation and especially each one of us restored in communion with Him. Therefore, the Father gives us of His best—the pattern Son who reveals the Father’s great heart of love for the world (John 3:16). God is wooing us to love Him with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves (Luke 10:27). Wood explains that to truly be who God created us to be, we need “others who are gifted in areas where we lack” (53). We were created “male and female” so right there you have tremendous diversity; yet, it is in the oneness of this diversity that we will see all creation set free into the glorious liberty of the sons of God (Rom. 8:21). Wood references the works of notable scholars in the field and brings together ministries who are truly gifted to supply answers where we have lacked. I highly recommend this book for home Bible study groups, as it presents the material in portions that young believers can relate to and assimilate. Each chapter includes key points for reflection, a related closing prayer, and questions for group discussion.

Life Changing
Format: Paperback
Doing a triad with this book has honestly changed every area of my life. Truly foundational for a Believer. I see God completely differently and there were so many “God moments” while reading it. He was confirming what was written and uprooting lies. So good and so excited to continue onto The Abba Factor!

Discipleship: Growing deeper in Love with God.
Format: Kindle
This is an insightful look at the real and personal questions that disciples of Christ have in their relationship with Father-God. It is appropriate for adult small group studies or individual growth, but keep a journal of the things that the Holy Spirit impresses upon your heart.

Sometimes Life-Changing
Format: Paperback
I read this book for a class. Though there's nothing heretical within, I didn't agree with all of the author's viewpoints. Some points made were interesting, but the book wasn't of lasting interest to me. I gave it to my dad when I was done, and the book impacted his life, revealing God's love to him in a way he hadn't understood. He loved it so much he bought the sequel.
