Reward is part of Rose Wallace’s ‘Flatback Figures’ series which is inspired by the traditional Staffordshire flatback ceramic mantlepiece. Rose employs original discarded objects, charged with meaning and concealed beauty as her starting point. Whether it is an Eighteenth Century clay pipe, a 1950's jelly mould or a piece of contemporary plastic packaging, she references them in narrative form. Creating the ‘Flatback Figures’ can be a time consuming process, made of anything up to fifty separate ceramic elements, finished with Staffordshire glaze.

“In modern society, we buy so much but value so little. My ceramics aim to re-evaluate and challenge this notion.”

Dimensions: 23 x 24 x 8 cm.

The discarded object; whether it be a vintage domestic item, a mudlark’d find, even a piece of plastic packaging are all relevant to Rose’s creative process: to make comment on mass consumerism within contemporary society. The ‘Curious Babes’ are created from a cast of a ‘Frozen Charlotte’ Victorian doll mudlark’d from the Thames and mounted upon casts of discarded vintage ephemera. Rose has been involved with ceramics since 1998, attaining a first-class B.A. (hons) in 2008 and selected for the Craft Potters’ Association in 2010. In addition to her studio work in East Oxford, she runs pottery courses and workshops for Sunningwell School of Art and West Dean College. Rose has work in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery and Museum Leamington Spa, The Grimmerhus Museum, Denmark; The International Ceramics Research Centre, Denmark; Cannon Hall Museum, Barnsley; and the Ken Stradling Study Collection Bristol.

Perfect for keep-away
Size: Large Size 3, Color: Red-Blue
I purchased one of these for my pup and he has a ball throwing it up in the air and chasing it. Handy for something they can play with alone.

Great durable ball
One of my dog’s favorite toy. We have had this ball for almost a year and it is still intact. My Doberman loves it and has not been able to destroy it. The size is comparable to s tenis ball. It has a little weight to it witch makes it easy to trow further.

Best toy I’ve ever gotten for my dog
The toy allows you to interact with your dog in a way that I didn’t realize was so important until I adopted a dog who was ball obsessed and a bit disconnected. We have bonded so much over this toy and it has held up so much better than 95% of the toys I’ve gotten, which have all been labeled as high-quality or durable. It is perfect for playing fetch and for tugging, as well as training. The only thing worth noting is that the rope is thin enough that it can be uncomfortable to tug with a large or strong dog. I usually wrap a leash around my hip and hook it to the rope when we are doing intense tugging (because my 75 pound dog would win otherwise). If you do go for a tug toy that has a more comfortable handle, it will not bounce and be easy for a dog to run around with in the same way. This rope makes the weight heavily in favor of the ball, so it acts more like a ball and the dog is more inclined to grab the ball. I think this toy finds right balance of ball to rope.

So good, I repurchased
This is one of my dog's fave fetch toys, and after losing it in a grassy field, I repurchased. The ball is heavy and durable, and the rope is sturdy and just the right length for flinging. When this comes out, my dog knows we're playing fetch! There's no strange smell out of the package, and while my 70lb Samoyed isn't a hard chewer, he hasn't put a dent or nick in the ball itself. It's not so hard that I'd be worried about him gnawing on it, either.

Great ball much improvement on thr rope
I have to say that I absolutely live this ball. The ball itself is a great sturdy and very tough ball. The rope however needs improved. It should be a much more durable, heavy duty rope. I have 4 large dogs. I do not let them chew this toy we play fetch with it but like any dog they tug (hard) and pull and do chew at it. I do not think that can be avoided, and thr rope doesn't hold up.
