WELCOME TO

EL SALVADOR

WELCOM TO EL SALVADOR, and get ready for a captivating seven-day journey through the vibrant landscapes and rich cultural heritage of El Salvador. Our adventure begins with an exploration of San Salvador, the bustling capital city, before visiting the tranquil lakeside town of Suchitoto. Along the way, we'll unravel the mysteries of ancient Maya civilizations at UNESCO-listed archaeological sites like Joya de Ceren and Tazumal. Traverse the picturesque Ruta de las Flores, adorned with colonial-era villages and gastronomic delights, before ascending the majestic Santa Ana volcano for breathtaking vistas. Conclude our odyssey with leisurely pursuits along La Libertad's rugged coastline, from exhilarating surfing lessons to tranquil waterfall retreats. Prepare to be captivated by the beauty and diversity of El Salvador at every turn.

Depending on the arrival time, we will make a stop in San Salvador for a walking tour of the city, visiting its main attractions, including the Iglesia El Rosario. This enormous concrete church may appear non descript from the outside, but its architects have cleverly designed a spectacular arched roof covered entirely in fanned-out windows of colored stained glass, casting a rainbow of natural light onto the tiled floor. This unusual and abstract piece of art sharply contrasts with the colonial and classical architecture found elsewhere in the city, such as the grand National Palace.

We visit Joya de Ceren, a UNESCO-listed archaeological site often compared to Pompeii, showcasing a Maya farming community preserved by ash from a 7th-century eruption. Then, we journey to Los Volcanoes National Park via the breathtaking Coatepeque crater lake. After lunch, we explore the ancient Mayan site of Tazumal before heading to the colonial town of Ataco along El Salvador's Flower Route. The Night is yours to enjoy.

El Salvador's Ruta de las Flores is a picturesque route comprising charming villages, each boasting distinctive colonial-era architecture. Intended for leisurely exploration, visitors can savor the local cuisine and ambiance. Ataco, our lodging destination, stands out for its vibrant street art adorning the town's buildings. Juayua, another key stop on the route, hosts a renowned weekend food festival, coinciding with our trip. The festival features numerous street food stalls offering delicacies like barbecued meats, prawns, and even fried frog skewers and guinea pigs. Dessert options abound, from ice cream to sweet buns paired with locally produced coffee.

Our day entails a journey along the Ruta de las Flores, pausing at various villages to experience their unique charm and indulge in delectable cuisine. Additionally, we'll likely visit the Cascadas de Don Juan in the morning for a refreshing swim before returning to our hotel in Ataco in the evening.

The Santa Ana volcano, standing at approximately 2300m, is the highest peak in El Salvador. Our camp- site sits at 1800m, and the ascent, starting with a moderate-grade hike through forests, takes roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes. As we ascend, the landscape transitions from lush overgrowth to barren terrain dominated by red-black volcanic rocks. After about an hour of hiking, we reach the summit, where we're rewarded with a breathtaking sight: the milky-green Llamatepec crater lake, set against the backdrop of black encircling rocks. From this vantage point, we can admire the neighboring Izalco volcano protruding from the valley, while the vast Coatepeque lake stretches to the east, surrounded by picturesque villages.

Later in the afternoon, we journey down the coast to La Libertad, renowned as one of the premier surfing destinations in the Americas. Our hotel, perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean, offers outdoor swimming pools and access to one of the area's striking black sand beaches.

As the sun begins to set, find a cozy spot on the beach to watch the sunset, capturing the breathtaking colors as they paint the sky. Good news, everyone! The Art of Futurama is here!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I always thought Futurama was simple and fun! However, after reading this book, I now understand that beneath its apparent simplicity lies an entire universe of complex experience, research, innovation, hard work, and talent. ★★★★☆ Art Unlike many other artbooks that rely heavily on production stills, this one is 90% sketchbook and finalized line art designs—a rare and delightful find. You'll not only discover the initial designs for all the main characters but also learn how to draw them. Each curve and line in the characters' designs is intentional, contributing to their unique personalities. The book also features three fold-out sections: New New York's buildings and junkyard, the Nimbus ship in orbit, and the Planet Express. While these offer detailed designs for enthusiasts, I didn’t find them particularly necessary, as there’s little in them that demands close study. ★★★★☆ Text The story of Futurama's creation is a joy to read. The book is divided into a few intros and nine chapters, each featuring two pages of text that include quotes from interviews with the show’s creators about their memories of its production. Additionally, there’s a wealth of quotes accompanying the images. I especially enjoyed learning how the team found inspiration for New New York by purchasing reference books in New York City bookstores. The integration of 3D and 2D animation—which was revolutionary at the time—is also well-documented. However, the advertised Futurama episode guide feels redundant. It offers nothing beyond episode titles and omits seasons 8 and 9 entirely, with no explanation given for their exclusion. ★★★★☆ Book Design The book's design features a creative transparent front cover case, a landscape layout, well-placed text and images, and a large, easy-to-read font. The page numbers are conveniently placed at the center of the page edge, making navigation effortless. Despite its strengths, I still feel the fold-outs are unnecessary and could have been omitted without any loss of value. ★★★★★ Price This book offers excellent quality for its price! Released in November 2024, it’s available as of January 2025 for $25. To paraphrase one of Futurama's opening chyron jokes (the texts below the show's logo at the beginning of each episode): "If you don’t buy it, someone else will." ★★★★☆ Overall Impressions It took me two relaxed sessions to fully read this book, and I can confidently say it’s impossible to get bored with it (or is that just nostalgia talking?). The hundreds of well-crafted line art illustrations of characters, assets, and backgrounds showcase the creators’ immense talent. The accompanying text is both engaging and informative, and the early sketches of the main characters provide a fascinating narrative of their development. That said, I was left wanting more. At 176 pages, the book feels a bit short, especially since it doesn’t include a single chapter dedicated to seasons 8 and 9, which aired after a ten-year hiatus. Nevertheless, The Art of Futurama is an excellent addition to any home library or a thoughtful gift for fans who grew up watching this iconic show in the late 1990s and 2000s.

This is a great Simpsons comic from Bongo Comics and Harper! This book has some funny spoofs on books/series such as Shakespeare,The Bible,1001 Arabian Nights, and Greek Myths. My favorite is the Humpty Dumpty spoof! The Fairy Tales [the one with Humpty Dumped] is also cool! Simpsons and/or Matt Groening fans will LOVE this book!
