Diameters 9/16" to 2.5/8" have a 3/8" shank; 2.11/16" to 4" have a 1/2" shank. Tungsten carbide teeth are made in Germany using premium grade carbide. Body of starter is longer than the original. Still fits but changing the starter on a BMW space is at a premium. Also had to grind down edge of battery cable to fit on solenoid. Aside from that starter was fine. Working well
