Amazon Sole (Apionichthys nattereri)
Overview
The Asian Sole (Apionichthys nattereri) is a fascinating freshwater flatfish species known for its ability to blend seamlessly with its environment. Unlike typical marine soles, this species thrives in freshwater and is a great choice for unique biotope aquariums. With a laterally compressed body and an elongated oval shape, it exhibits a remarkable camouflage ability, making it an interesting addition to a peaceful tank.
Origin
The Amazonn Sole is native to South America, particularly found in the Amazon River Basin. It primarily inhabits sandy or muddy riverbeds where it buries itself to stay hidden from predators and ambush prey.
Feeding
The Amazon Sole is a carnivorous species that primarily feeds on small invertebrates, worms, and crustaceans in the wild. In captivity, it can be fed:
Live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, blackworms, and brine shrimp.
Sinking pellets and carnivore-based foods.
It may take time to adjust to prepared foods, so offering live or frozen food initially is recommended.
Tank Mates
Due to its peaceful and shy nature, the Amazon Sole should be housed with non-aggressive, slow-moving tank matesthat won’t outcompete it for food. Good companions include:
Small to medium-sized tetras
Corydoras catfish
Dwarf cichlids (Apistogramma species)
Otocinclus catfish
Avoid housing them with large, aggressive fish that may view them as prey.
Aggression
This species is non-aggressive and spends most of its time on the substrate, either resting or burrowing into the sand. It does not pose a threat to tank mates but can be outcompeted for food if housed with more active species.
Experience Level
Moderate – While not overly difficult to care for, the Asian Sole requires:
A well-established tank with a soft, sandy substrate.
Proper feeding to ensure it gets enough food.
Stable water conditions to prevent stress or illness.
Water Parameters
To keep the Asian Sole healthy, maintain the following conditions:
Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C)
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2–12 dGH)
Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons for a single fish
Substrate: Fine sand is recommended to allow for natural burrowing behavior.
Final Thoughts
The Amazon Sole is an intriguing and unusual species for dedicated aquarists looking to add a unique bottom-dweller to their aquarium. While peaceful and relatively low-maintenance, it requires special attention to diet and substrate to ensure it thrives.

Easy and exciting
Format: Paperback
3.5⭐️ I didn't know that this book was the third part of the Campus Police series. But it reads well as a stand-alone book. The first two books are about the other two couples who also appear here. This time, the story revolves around Cappy, who is back after a few weeks away and her grandfather's funeral, and Jazz, a librarian with a special flair for decorating her office. In this short time, a lot has changed in Cappy's personal life, and she has to get used to it all again. Brian, a talented football player who was forced to completely change his life after a traffic accident, is found dead. Initially, it is classified as suicide, but Jazz insists on a more thorough investigation of the case, as she is convinced that Brian was looking forward to the future despite adverse circumstances. Cappy is assigned to determine whether it was a crime. The interviews Cappy conducted to uncover all the circumstances and background information were interesting. However, I found it a little strange that a civilian was allowed to attend these interviews. Jazz and Cappy have mutual friends who are all professionally involved with the campus. The banter between them is amusing, and the romance between Cappy and Jazz is nice and sweet. An easy-to-read book with amusing and likable characters, good and witty dialogue, and some suspense.

Very enjoyable read.
Format: Kindle
I believe this is the third installment of the ‘ University Police Series’ and the best part of a series like this is the reader gets to meet up with the cast of characters from Ms Walsh’s first two books. The first book introduced us to a group of professors, four to be exact and in each book we get to read about romance and crime.. The University Campus Police are the ones these professor’s turn to when there is unfortunately a murder on campus. This time it’s Professor Jazz Harald that seeks the help of the police when one of the students she knows has decided to end his own life. Jazz doesn’t believe the police reports so she reaches out to the campus police, Officer Cappy Flannery. Cappy has read the report herself, even visited the apartment where the young student lived. She agrees with the report but she also reluctantly agrees with Jazz the case should be investigated. If you have read the first two books then you’re in for a treat, if you hadn’t read the first two books you might find yourself lost because Walsh brings in everyone or so it seems from the two stories. It might be a good idea to read the first two. Very enjoyable read. ARC via NetGalley/ Bold Stroke Books

Good book
Format: Kindle
This is the third book in the series. In this installment, Cappy investigates the suicide of the star football player. Jazz, the librarian and a member of Libby's friend group, does not believe it was a suicide and is assisting Cappy with the investigation. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first two; the pace was slow at the beginning, but it improved towards the end. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order. Overall, I would still recommend this book. I received an arc

Wonderful read.
Format: Kindle
What a wonderful story. Nora and Fallon were meant to be together, although it took them forever to figure it out. The MC’s were well developed and described, and the scenery was detailed beautifully. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it certainly won’t be the last. Well done. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Second-chance, slow-burn sapphic romance
Format: Paperback
"Firecamp" by Jaycie Morrison is a second-chance sapphic romance that includes an emotionally-charged slow burn romance and a time-jump. MCs Nora and Fallon come from very different circumstances, but are thrown together along with six other women at Firecamp where they all must work to help mitigate wildfires. Both emotionally immature and carrying their own baggage, Nora and Fallon's young romance ends with a bang. Ten years later, with their careers leading the way, they are forced back together. What follows is a slow burn, second-chance romance that is less naive but no less passionate. This was my first book by Jaycie Morrison, but it definitely won't be my last. I really enjoyed the way she developed Nora & Fallon independently and together as well as the "side action" that we saw with Nora's family, especially her younger brother Tyler. I was initially drawn to the story because it was set in the Colorado wildfire scene & I loved how that was portrayed. Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the eARC.
