The Lion of Princeton: B.B. Warfield as Apologist and TheologianTheres little doubt about the impact B. B. Warfield has had on American Christianity. There’s little doubt about the impact B.B. Warfield has had on American Christianity. Some hail him for his apologetic and polemical skills, praising him as a defender of Reformed orthodoxy. Others view him with less regard—as too focused on the role of reason in faith and too devoted to the inerrancy of Scripture. But all agree that he is a man with whom one must reckon. Despite the resurging interest in his life and work, Warfield’s views are often misunderstood. In The Lion of Princeton, Kim Riddlebarger investigates Warfield’s theological, apologetical, and polemical writings, bringing clarity to the confusion that surrounds this key figure of the Princeton tradition. Riddlebarger provides a biographical overview of Warfield’s life and traces the growing appreciation for Warfield’s thought by contemporary Reformed thinkers. Furthermore, he evaluates the fundamental structures in Warfield’s overall theology and examines Warfield’s work in the field of systematic theology. Warfield’s theological heirs revere his memory, while his critics continue to find his work misguided and his legacy troubling. “The Lion of Princeton,” as he was known, was certainly up for the challenge. We must therefore take a fresh look at the work of this great scholar, who was in many ways the most significant American apologist, polemicist, and theologian of his age.

______________

Kim Riddlebarger (PhD, Fuller Theological Seminary) is senior pastor of Christ Reformed Church in Anaheim, CA, and has been a visiting professor of systematic theology at Westminster Seminary California. He is author of A Case for Amillennialism and The Man of Sin, and a co-host of the White Horse Inn radio program.

______________

Almost a century after his death, B.B. Warfield continues to command attention as a must-read theologian. Kim Riddlebarger’s accounting of Warfield’s philosophical influences raises again the question of the role of Scottish Common Sense Realism in the Princeton tradition, which many will dispute—but all who owe a debt to Warfield’s vast erudition and evident devotion to Christ and the Scriptures will find much to enjoy in this portrait of the “Lion of Princeton.” Fred G. Zaspel, author of The Theology of B.B. Warfield: A Systematic Summary

I (still) like it
Color: B Black
Looks solid, considering it is lightweight plastic. Very large. I have a large wrist and still I needed to remove 3 links. Link removal took a while to figure out. Needed the video (QR code in box), a bright light and magnifying glasses (to see the inside arrows and tiny pins). It seems to keep good time, though the hands are slightly off -- for example, at 3 o'clock, the hour hand is a bit after 3, not right on 3. At 6:15, it seems it will be 7 very soon. Maybe it will make me early for a change LOL. Mostly I just really need a watch to tell the time, without having to pull out my phone. This does the job, with a bit of style and a touch of irony. Update, after 5 months of daily use: The watch still looks good and the timepiece still functions. Sadly, a small piece of plastic broke off the watch band, where the pin connects, so the band will not stay together. It is a larger piece of the band, near the dial, so there are not extra links of that size to repair it. There does not appear to be a warranty. Up to this point, I have received several compliments on the watch. I agree that the contrast is rather eye-catching. I may buy a second one and use the first watch for parts.

Cheap dial
Color: E Gold Black
As a whole it's a quartz plastic watch for under $20...I'm disappointed in the poor looking dial quality. The case seems fine for a plastic watch, it's no Swatch but not a bad case. Shame the dial looks so cheap, it may have passed at a glance as a nice watch otherwise.

NOT WORTH IT
Color: E All Black
Not worth the money in my opinion. Very light weight. Almost like wearing a child's watch. Cheaply made.
