Fitting and handling
Allow the trim to acclimatise on site for at least 48 hours before fixing, stored flat and off the ground under cover to prevent distortion. Fix using stainless steel or A4-grade screws to avoid corrosion staining, pre-drilling close to ends to prevent splitting. Left uncoated, the timber will weather to a silver-grey patina; apply a suitable exterior oil or microporous coating if you want to retain the warm brown tone and extend surface life.
FAQ
Does ThermoWood D corner trim need treating before installation?
It does not require preservative treatment as the heat treatment process permanently improves decay and moisture resistance. However, applying an exterior oil or coating before installation will help retain the original colour and reduce surface checking over time.
Will this trim match ThermoWood cladding boards from the same range?
Yes. Because the trim is produced from the same Finnish pine using the same ThermoWood D process, the colour, density, and weathering behaviour will be consistent with other ThermoWood cladding products in your installation.
Can I cut ThermoWood D trim on site with standard tools?
Yes, it cuts cleanly with a standard mitre saw or hand saw. Heat-treated timber can be slightly more brittle than untreated pine, so pre-drill fixing holes within 50mm of any cut end to reduce the risk of splitting.
