Our handmade bespoke wildlife products can take up to six weeks to build and deliver if we don't have them in stock.

The Tawny Owl Nest Box is a purpose-built nesting box for the familiar ‘too-whit too-whoo’ owl of woodlands. The box is handmade in our Gloucestershire workshop and is an effective way of offering a nesting cavity to tawny owls. Particularly in places where there may not be natural hollows – such as in extensive gardens with healthy trees, secondary woodland and coniferous plantations.

Tawnies are territorial birds, and only one pair will occupy a woodland territory and nest site. This box design is readily taken up by nesting owls, particularly if they are looking for new nest sites and may be used every year.

  • Handmade from solid FSC®-certified timber
  • Slow-seasoned timber negates the need for chemicals, stains or artificial preservatives.
  • Lightweight but durable
  • Recycled plastic upper and lower hanging/fixing plates
  • Integral perch
  • Large inspection door with bolt
  • Fitted with a camera clip

Siting

The Tawny Owl box should be sited high on a mature tree between 3.5 and 5 metres with a clear flight path to the entrance. When the fledgelings emerge, they use nearby branches to access higher areas of the tree canopy. Hence mounting the tawny owl box on an isolated pole is unsuitable.

The box should ideally face east/northeast or southeast. The availability of prey species close to the nesting box is vital. Tawny Owls eat a wide variety of prey, including mice, voles, rats, insects, invertebrates, amphibians and birds. The proximity of fruiting or nut-bearing trees and shrubs that support these target species would indicate a suitable nesting site.

Monitoring and inspection

Tawny owls are early breeding birds, and some individuals may lay eggs as early as January. You may inspect the box in May, but You should take care in opening the inspection hatch as tawny owls can be aggressive if young are present or nearby.

A colorful adventure for all ages

We got this graphic novel for our 7, soon to be 8 year old and she absolutely loves it! With artwork that is vibrant and colorful, lovable characters, and a charming, immersive story, Time Buddies is a fun read for kids and adults alike.

Fun
Format: Paperback
Fun story for reluctant readers with the comics. My daughter is very picky about what she reads and this caught her eye.

Really fun and engaging book
Format: Paperback
My 9 year old loves graphic novels, and has previously read the Cat Ninja series, so when I saw this I wanted to get it for her. She said it was a really fun and funny book, and she loved the time traveling aspect of it. She sat and read the whole thing through without stopping. And she gives it 5 stars. :) So if you have a kiddo who likes graphic novels like Cat Ninja, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, etc., this is a good book for them!

Fun read
Format: Paperback
My son says he doesnt enjoy reading but once he gets going he quickly gets pulled in. He said he'd seen the Epic books at school and he typically liked them, so we gave it a try. He read it in about 2 days, its summer so its amazing he read to begin with, but in asking him, he said it was a good story and it was easy to read. Honestly I like my kids to have books that are easy to read but will throw in the occasional big word as a learning opportunity. The book quality itself is really nice. From cover to cover the book is well made and feels durable. The illustrations are bright and well done. Overall I would highly recommend this to any child who might enjoy time travel with a touch of history.

A fun, comic style book
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
My fourth grader really enjoyed this book and asked if it was a part of a series. We didn't sit down and read it in one setting and usually when that happens we forget to come back and finish a book..... But she didn't forget about this one. Will probably reread it in the future too. The pages are nice quality and the colors are bright. The print is a little bit on the teeny side; But that's pretty typical in comic style print. We were really happy with it! I think a kid as young as second or third grade could also enjoy this book if they are reading skills are a little on the stronger side. I've sat with 5th graders who would read it this level too.
