The clue was always in the name; since its creation in 1948, the Land Rover was designed to rove the land, regardless of conditions. As the world’s first successful civilian 4x4, it has defined a world it helped change, opening new horizons for adventure, work and humanitarian action on every continent. Iconic expeditions documented its early exploits spanning the globe and, for many, it was perhaps the first car they ever saw. A name that became synonymous with the Camel Trophy, the Defender even went rallying through the motorsport experts at Bowler. Worldwide sales included military versions, inspiring the Defender name that would later be applied to all variants, whilst many civilian models performed heroics too, serving as breakdown trucks, ambulances and hydraulic platforms. Whilst its capabilities took it to the most inaccessible locations, its appeal took it to the most glamourous places with some of cinema’s biggest stars; Marylin Monroe, Steve McQueen and Paul McCartney were among those who owned a Land Rover. The association wasn’t just with Hollywood royalty either, Queen Elizabeth II herself was often seen behind the wheel of a Defender on the Royal estates.

This was possible because, above all else, the Defender was engineered to be capable. With lightweight aluminium panels, very short overhangs and, crucially, selectable four-wheel drive, the Defender stormed the globe. 70 per cent of its Land Rover’s output had been exported to 150 countries within just ten years of production. Every version went further, setting standards others struggle to follow: new, longer wheelbases made the original more useable, engines grew more powerful and efficient, and modern comforts started to appear in Series 3 models onwards. The Defender name was introduced in 1990, following the introduction of the Land Rover Discovery the year previous. It perfectly reflected what customers all over the world felt about this unique vehicle: trusted, dependable, rugged and reliable. Production finally concluded in 2016, with over two million examples built during its 68-year production life, the longest-running production for a car in the world, with an estimated 75% of them still roaming the globe. No vehicle before it had left so many tyre tracks across the world, and none in the future is likely to match its legacy.

Amalgam Collection and Alan Thornton

Amalgam is delighted to partner with artist Alan Thornton to introduce a collection of Half Tone Flat Bed prints. Precise and technical in nature, these prints isolate the subject, laying the image onto Alan’s signature metallic background, that focuses the viewer’s eye on the sculptural, organic qualities of iconic cars and planes. Alan’s obsession with form, function and beauty, combined with his enduring passion for all things automotive and mechanical, align perfectly with Amalgam’s mission.

The Process

A reprographic technique that simulates continuous-tone imagery through the use of dots, thus generating a gradient-like effect, Alan's Half Tone artwork brings his traditional approach to screen printing into the contemporary digital world. Applied directly on to the brushed aluminium composite panels, the ink is then cured by a UV light that bonds it to the surface of the substrate, resulting in a resistant and long-lasting work of art that can even be displayed in outdoor exhibitions. This approach opens up endless ways to add texture and depth by building the image up in multiple layers, very much like the screen-printing process. The finished image is waterproof and very resistant to abrasion, so that there is no need to protect the art behind glass. The piece can be hung without a frame, creating a sharp and minimal presentation of the art floating less than an inch (15 mms) off of the wall. The piece can also be traditionally framed and hung if desired. Alan’s work in this medium brings exceptional precision, intensity, and glamour to the finished art.

Handling Your Print

Half Tone Flat Bed prints are supplied with a subframe attached to the back, enabling immediate ‘float’ effect hanging on the wall. The finished image is waterproof and very resistant to abrasion, so that there is no need to protect the art behind glass.

Half Tone Flat Bed Fine Art Prints of the Land Rover Series 2a are limited to just 300 copies. By purchasing this print, you agree and consent to your information being shared with Alan Thornton for use in the fulfilment of your order.

🙌 body diversity 🙌
Format: Kindle
Body diversity for the win in this new twist on a classic vampire x human trope! A Rose For The Taking explores the arranged marriage between an under-appreciated “spinster” and a vampire magistrate stuck in her own grief. Beyond the budding romance, we are also given a piercing look into the struggle of vampire/human politics including classism, worker exploitation and policy reform. The spice was sparingly scattered throughout the book and was unfortunately almost exclusively one-sided…which continues to be my biggest pet peeve in these books. Overall, the steamy bits were effective and blended well into the storyline. No kink, mostly open door. Additionally, Trapp lovingly incorporates a realistically proportioned FMC, the grief of losing a spouse and the familial trauma of being tolerated only for what you bring to the table. Solid read and it definitely got me adding more of Trapp’s body of work to my TBR!

It was a good read.
Format: Kindle
While I did enjoy the book, it moved a little fast with little plot development. Rose started strong and then she seemed to get weaker and weaker throughout. Even the parts where she found her back bone didn’t compare to her initial anger towards her family. Lena was a good character. A little huffier than I liked but overall well rounded. Overall, I enjoyed the book, it just wasn’t my favorite.

Lovely sapphic vampire and human romance!
Format: Kindle
I was given an ARC copy of A Rose For The Taking by author Katie Trapp. Thank you Katie for the chance to be an ARC reader. A Rose For the Taking is a sapphic vampire and human romance with topics of arranged marriage, self-discovery, and a little bit of mystery. Rose is a human, who is pressured by her family to enter an arranged marriage with a vampire, Lina. Lina is a vampire whose job is to maintain the peace between vampires and humans. With tensions rising between the two Lina agrees to marry a human in order to hopefully ease those tensions. Lina chooses Rose expecting to be friends, but nothing else. Instead love starts to blossom between the two as Rose learns to find her inner strength and stand up for herself, while Lina learns to open up her heart again. However, a threat causing the tension between the humans and vampires puts there love at risk as well. The journey these two characters take is so relatable. Rose has been taught by her family to be subservient and basically have no voice. Lina has grown closed off in terms of romance due to her past experience. Together they go through a process of self discovery and fall in love during the process. They aren't perfect though with some ups and downs, which makes this story even more relatable. This book has it all. There is growth of characters finding themselves, a spicy romance, and a little bit of mystery that blended together creates a story you don't want to put down till you finish it. I have read a few of Katie Trapp's books so far and each one has captured me in some way and just drawn me in. Katie has a way with words that you can somehow relate to the characters in one way or another. This one was no different and I enjoyed this book a lot. If you like vampire and human romance this is the book to read. I look forward to Katie's next book.

Ford.Grant. That is all
Format: Kindle
Umm ok so this was literally the most PERFECT thing. This book is special. These characters are special and beautiful, and so wonderful. So precious. I love them all. I love this book. I'm blown away. You know those rare books that enchant you from the very first sentence, the ones that grab your heart and don’t let it go? THIS. This is one of those books. I adore this book with my entire heart. It was so utterly perfect in all the best and right ways. I honestly just wish I could go back and read this again for the first time because it was SO GOOD. I devoured this in two days and was just absolutely giddy while reading about Ford and Rosie’s love story. I swear, Elsie Silver wrote my love language with these two. The sarcastic and witty exchanges between them is what I absolutely loved and couldn’t get enough of. Their attraction towards one another and the fact they were so clearly head over heels in love was undeniable and the tension between the two of them was so palpable that it gave me all the feels. My heart absolutely ached for these two, even when I was literally laughing out loud over their banter. And boy, the way they loved each other just swept me off my feet in my most favourite way. I don’t know what my favourite part of this story was. There isn’t just one. There’s many. It’s all of it. There’s so much to it that if I was to really dive into it, I’d come out with an essay. All of that to say, I loved it. I really, really loved this story. Soul level and all the good stuff. I cannot say anything bad about this book. It’s up there as one of my all-time favourites and I love it with every fibre of my being. A million hats off to Elsie Silver for this one, because I know this is a story I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Elsie Silver can truly do no wrong. She is the blueprint, and I will read her books forever.
