2023 Vinework Chardonnay

Vinework presents the opportunity to experience a seasonal voyage from the vineyard to the glass – from growth to creation. Crafted in celebration of the hours spent walking amongst the vines, watching, tending, tasting - connecting with our growers and the region's land. This range welcomes you to walk alongside us on this unique passage through the vineyards, exploring the individual blocks and batches brought together to create this story—a colourful, textural tale of the season and the soils.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale straw.
Nose: Fruit driven chardonnay offering nashi pears and grapefruit characters with underlying hints of oyster shell.
Palate: Medium bodied, displaying fresh pome fruits and citrus characters, with a lovely minerally edge and a crisp dry finish.

Viticulture

Varietal: Chardonnay (100%)
Vintage: 2023
Region: Margaret River
Conditions: The growing season began with a late budburst due to a cold winter, followed by a cool, wet spring, resulting in an extended flowering period, with good fruit-set for most varieties. The very dry, mild summer offered perfect ripening conditions, allowing fruit to retain wonderful natural acidity.

Winemaking Notes: All the fruit for this Vinework Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed and was all barrel fermented in select French oak barriques (12% new oak). Wild fermentation was encouraged on all of the components, in order to introduce more complexity and personality into the wine. All of the individual batches which make up the blend were lees stirred throughout a nine-month oak maturation period, without any malolactic fermentation. The final blend was put together in November 2022.
