RadioMaster TX16S MK3: The Evolution of the Legend

If the T8L is a minimalist wallet, the RadioMaster TX16S MK3 is a Swiss Army Knife with a built-in laser and a 5-inch touchscreen. Let’s not beat around the bush: the TX16S is the industry standard, and the MK3 is RadioMaster basically doing a victory lap. Powered by the STM32 H7 chip—which has more processing power than the computers that landed men on the moon—this radio is for the pilot who wants zero compromises and 100% "I know what I'm doing" energy. Whether you're chasing DRL finals dreams or just trying to navigate EdgeTX without crying, this is the ExpressLRS 2.4GHz and 868MHz powerhouse you’ve seen in every Joshua Bardwell video for a reason.

Why You Want It

You want it because you’re tired of "making do." The MK3 features a massive 5-inch IPS touchscreen that’s actually readable in the rare British sunshine, plus Gemini-X dual-band technology. That means it’s running 2.4GHz and 900MHz simultaneously, because losing signal is for people who still use FM radios from the 80s. With LUA-controlled RGB gimbal rings, you can make your radio glow like a gaming PC, or, more practically, set them to turn red when your battery is about to turn into a spicy pillow. It’s heavy, it’s feature-packed, and it says, "Yes, I spent my entire Christmas bonus on this, and no, I don't regret it."

Specifications

  • Processor: STM32 H7 (Lightning-fast, unlike your reaction times after three pints)
  • Display: 5-inch 800x480 IPS Touchscreen (Vivid enough to watch... well, telemetry)
  • Gimbals: V6 Hall-effect quad-bearing (Standard precision that puts your shaky hands to shame)
  • Internal RF: Gemini-X Dual-Band ELRS (2.4GHz and 900MHz for ultimate link insurance)
  • Weight: 813g (A solid unit; doubles as a gym weight during those long CAA wait times)
  • Storage: 4GB Onboard Flash (Plenty of room for custom voice packs of your mum telling you to land)

What’s in the Box*

  • 1× RadioMaster TX16S MK3 Radio Controller
  • 1× Signature Carry Case (Because a legend deserves a tuxedo)
  • 1× 18650 Battery Tray (Batteries still not included; we're a shop, not a charity)
  • 2× Replacement Shoulder Panels (For when you inevitably drop it while showing off)
  • 1× Neck Strap (Save your wrists; the MK3 is a thicc lad)
  • 1× RadioMaster Sticker Set (For your laptop, your van, or your forehead)

Product Notes

The MK3 comes with built-in motion sensors—tilt the radio to trigger switches or pan your camera. It’s also modular; if you don’t like the switches, swap the panels. It’s essentially the Lego of high-end radio gear. Requires EdgeTX 3.0.0 or higher to handle all this raw power.

Disclaimer

Batteries are still a "you" problem. This radio is smarter than most of its users; we guarantee the hardware, not your ability to configure a mixer.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Is the TX16S MK3 legal in the UK? Yes. Our stock is the EU/LBT compliant version. While the hardware is capable of massive power, it defaults to regulatory standards so you don't accidentally summon OFCOM to your flight field.
    • How does Gemini-X dual-band work? It's basically a "no-failsafe" insurance policy. The MK3 transmits on both 2.4GHz and 868/900MHz bands at the same time. If a local Wi-Fi router or a brick wall kills your 2.4GHz link, the lower-frequency 900MHz band keeps you in the air.
    • Can I use my old MK2 batteries? Yes. Any 2S Li-ion (like our 5000mAh pack) or 2S LiPo with a JST-XH connector fits. Just remember the MK3 pulls a bit more current due to that massive screen and the cooling fans, so maybe don't use those crusty 18650s you found in a drawer.
    • Do I need to buy an external module? Probably not. The internal RF module hits 1W and covers both major ELRS bands. Unless you're strictly a TBS Crossfire or Ghost loyalist, the built-in module is all you’ll ever need for long-range or racing.
    • Wait, the screen is bigger—will my old telemetry scripts work? Most will scale fine, but the MK3 runs EdgeTX 3.0+. Some older, abandoned LUA scripts might need a quick update to handle the new 800x480 resolution.
    • Why does it have a built-in microphone? It’s for future feature expansion (and probably so the radio can hear you swearing when you clip a gate). Currently, it’s mostly there for developers to play with voice commands or sound-triggering.

Still Here?

If you’re still reading this, you’re clearly the type of pilot who checks their Betaflight settings three times before every pack. You know the TX16S MK3 is the king of the hill. You know the H7 processor and Gemini dual-band link are the FPV equivalent of buying a supercar just to drive to Tesco. You’ve probably already got a tab open for the AG02 CNC gimbal upgrade. Stop over-analysing and just join the cult of RadioMaster. It’s better over here. Buy it, bind it, and try not to crash into a goalpost on your first flight.

I recommend using the KONG Extreme Dog Toy
Style: Sport, Size: Large
Helpful for throwing as much as my dog wants to fetch. I actually had to get a cortisone injection in my shoulder a few months after getting my dog - never had a dog with this much energy before! The Chuckit really helps. Downside: The ball that comes with it is larger than a tennis ball, so may be too much for smaller doge. I can't imagine my sister-in-law's french bulldog carrying it! Also, in our house it gets destroyed within minutes, as my dog is a strong chewer. For this situation, I recommend using the KONG Extreme Dog Toy, Black, size Large. This is shaped sort of like a snowman, which means it bounces unpredictably at times. My dog eventually chews the "head" off of this toy, but the remaining 2/3 still fits in the Chuckit (and is actually easier to throw with the "head" missing!). One caveat: the KONG is significantly heavier than the ball included with the Chuckit, so be aware of that... Also, we ordered our first Chickit in October 2015, then needed to replace it in May of 2017, as it broke. I think the plastic became brittle over that time, as we left it out in the sun & rain in Florida. Since it is cheap to replace, that's not a big deal. (We ordered three Kong toys over that same period of time!) To summarize, it's a very helpful tool to get the ball further, faster, with less strain, than without it. Knowing there are alternatives to the included ball for heavy chewers makes it worthwhile.

Great Ball Launcher!
Style: Sport, Size: Large
Our dogs love this ball launcher! I can throw the ball long distances without any arm strain. The balls wear out, and as described by others, tennis balls don’t fit. Buy extra balls if this is of concern. We bought a few of the “Chuck It” rubber 3” balls and they have worked well for our dogs. It’s a great value and fun for the dogs.

Chuckit!! Just Chuck it!!
Style: Sport, Size: Large
Chuck it further than your skinny little arms can chuck it. Doggo loved this, I loved this and when we were done Doggo promptly hid it under the porch so I couldn’t take it from him. It’s not a squeaky toy, it’s for fetch. You wing it out toward the yard and it flies, bounces if it’s lucky then is attacked in an adoring manner. We like it!!

Great to exercise the dogs!
Style: Sport, Size: Large
Great to throw 3” KONG Ball (RED) with hole thru it! The thrower is the best to exercise dogs with retrieving balls!

Great product
Style: Sport, Size: Large
This is a lifesaver. My lab will chase the ball all day and this saves the arms and shoulders. A little bit of a learning curve to use but I would definitely recommend
