Hij besefte dat zijn conservatieve clientèle er niet rijp voor was.
Na de dood van de schilder zijn de meeste van deze werken onder de vele familieleden van zijn echtgenote verdeeld of verzeilden ze in kelders van musea. Dit 'eerbetoon' vertelt het onwaarschijnlijke verhaal van Jean Colin en zijn 'verborgen meesterwerken'.
Het inleidende essay is van Eric Min, biograaf van James Ensor, Rik Wouters en Henri Evenepoel.
