Please note, almost all jute, including ours, is treated with a mineral oil, Jute Batching Oil, during manufacturing to keep the fibers soft and together as it is twisted. Please note, almost all jute, including ours, is treated with a mineral oil, Jute Batching Oil, during manufacturing to keep the fibers soft and together as it is twisted. This oil can smell a little like mild turpentine. If your bundle smells too much for you, leave it in the sun for a day or two, exposing the rope to sunlight or ultraviolet radiation will lessen the mineral oil smell.
