This rare and eccentric double-trumpet style vase from ROTH KERAMIK features an asymmetrical form covered in a flowing glaze of brown, tan, and goldenrod.  It was very likely designed by Dorothea Roth in the early 1970s and exhibits many of the earmarks of studio pottery.

ROTH KERAMIK was founded in the late 1960s or the very early 1970s by Edmund and Dorothea Roth in the tiny municipality of Ebernhahn, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.  ROTH was quite small compared to the big names in West German art pottery manufacturing.  It only employed about 20 people in its heyday, and its output was naturally tiny measured against that of giants like Scheurich or Carstens.  Dorthea is believed to have been responsible for the designs, and Marei appears to have supplied many of the forms that were unique to the company.  Very little else is known about ROTH, but in spite of their small size, they did still manage to produce some of the most sought after and collectible pottery of the late mid century period, as well as having developed some really distinctive volcanic and fat lava glazes.  At the end of the Art Pottery heyday, ROTH began producing rather utilitarian tableware.  the company was officially dissolved in 2008.
