Athens artist George Pontikis creates unique sculptural forms by Raku technique in an open fire kiln. He combines metallic surfaces, terra sigillata and colored glazes. He first started working and experimenting with clay art in his father's ceramic studio in the 1980s. During that period he obtained a good understanding of the material's nature, feel and manipulation.
He studied Graphic arts but his unprecedented passion for art in clay drove him to enrich and enhance his practical knowledge and he thus dedicated himself to exclusively creating with it.
Raku constitutes his principal technique and means of self-expression. His personal studio is located in Aspropyrgos.
