The Craft: Seamless Resin-Wood Joint

Each stick begins with a piece of dense zitan wood, turned and shaped by hand. A translucent resin section is fused directly onto the wood while both materials are still in their raw state, creating a continuous bond without glue. The resin displays natural iridescence with blue, gold, and purple hues, along with internal fractures and reflective surfaces that are inherent to the material.

The lower end retains the brownish wood grain. No two sticks share the same resin pattern or color distribution.

The Zitan Wood

Zitan wood, also known as black sandalwood, has been used in Chinese furniture and carving since the Ming dynasty. It is dense, dark-toned, and naturally oily, which gives it a subtle sheen. This stick comes pre-treated with protective oil.

Because zitan is a natural material, grain patterns and color depth vary from piece to piece. The resin section may show small internal fractures or color shifts — these are marks of a genuine handcrafted object, not defects.

Fit & Care

Works well for all hair volumes, including very thick and heavy hair. The rigid shaft holds securely without flexing. Best for hair at least armpit length; optimal hold is achieved with bra-strap to waist length hair. Not recommended for very short hair or fine hair that struggles with thicker sticks — consider our short hair sticks instead.

Care: Wipe gently with a soft cloth. Avoid soaking in water or exposing to prolonged humidity. Store away from direct sunlight to preserve the resin's color.
