About Shane

Shane Hansen, known as Yondee, is a Noongar man from Western Australia and currently residing in Perth. Born in 1964 in Dumbleyung, located approximately 270 km south of Perth, he has a profound connection to the Aboriginal term 'Dambeling,' denoting a large lake near his birthplace, the largest in southwest WA, and the stories associated with it, particularly those about the Wagal (rainbow snake), which he vividly recalls from his childhood visits.

Hansen's upbringing was infused with cultural teachings from his father, encompassing hunting techniques and visual artistry exemplified through sand drawings. At the age of around 10, his interactions with his aunties along the Swan River exposed him to the practice of gathering paper bark for their artistic endeavors, initiating his artistic tutelage under older relatives renowned for their paper bark paintings.

An adept and accomplished artist, Hansen is pioneering a distinctive approach involving sand and ochres to portray his people's ancestral narratives and legends. His repertoire also includes meticulously crafted figurative works reflecting aspects of mission life, hunting, and fauna. While his artistic presentations are abstract, they possess a distinct narrative essence. Hansen's creative pursuits are driven by a desire to preserve the traditions imparted by his grandfather, who transmitted stories and imagery through ground paintings. Hansen perceives the transition of these portrayals into sand paintings as a means of doing justice to their significance while introducing them to novel audiences.

About the artwork

Old people used rock formations for camping, and the stories of the tribes were painted on the faces of the rock cliffs.

Yondee Shane Hanson remembers:

“Later on, when we moved to the outskirts of Perth, to Swan View, we would walk down to the river, light fires along the side of the river, and collect paper bark. Art was all around me – in the paddocks when the flowers came, in the fields and the crops, along the rivers and around the rocks.”

Talking about his art practice today, Yondee Shane Hansen says: “I make sand paintings, collecting sand from the creeks. You have to wash it to get the salt out, but the sand differs from the creeks, so it's smoother. It's good to use when you have washed it a few times, sieved it, and mixed it with paint. When I make sand paintings using black and white, it gives that simple, strong message.”

Yondee Shane Hansen has painted with the Campfire group of Aboriginal artists in Brisbane and has exhibited his work in galleries in Western Australia, NSW, Queensland, and overseas (including the USA, the Czech Republic, and Ireland).

Gorgeous, but some big downsides
Color: Pink-upgrade, Size: 14 Inch
I wanted to like this bag SO BADLY. I’ve owned other backpacks by this brand and they have never disappointed. This one though, was a close miss. The color is absolutely GORGEOUS and I almost kept it for that reason alone. However, two big things made me return it: 1) The inside is no longer padded. If you had purchased older Golf Supags backpacks, the interior had padding to help the backpack keep its shape and not slouch over on the floor. That’s gone, so this one does flop over a little. But the big deal breaker: 2) holy cannoli, these straps are WAY too long! On the shortest length, the backpack is still hanging almost halfway down my back. It looks weird, but it’s also not ergonomically good for your back. The actual strap part (with padding) is so far back that the thin seatbelt adjustable material is the only thing on my shoulders. Super awkward. I’m not necessarily a small person either, so I shudder to think what this would look like on someone more petite than me.

Flimsy and cheap
Color: Apricot, Size: 14-Inch
This is the second time I bought a purse online... First was on temu ... Expected to be trash and it was... So I bought this one... And idk what's worse, the temu purse or this one.. only buying them in person from now on unless Its 100% obviously sturdy and of good quality. The fabric and entire purse itself is cheap thin fabric .. not only does it feel cheap it looks cheap. I'm not one to write comments but I'd return it if I wasn't so damn lazy... It feels like the play purses your parents would give you as a kid. Not worth the money. I guess it has pockets, but I feel like my things would be sitting on the floor even though my purse is a barrier and feels like my belongings are not protected in the slightest... Especially not a laptop as advertised.

Beautiful and Well Made
Color: Royal Blue, Size: Small
Remarkable and well made top. It fits perfectly, is super soft and of substantial fabric. The color (royal blue) is vibrant and looks like the picture. It is made and feels like a much more expensive top you would find in an upscale shop. It wears well and you are never hot, just wonderful.

Best white tshirt ever! Will have to buy more
Color: White, Size: Medium
Top is great, better than the expensive designer top I bought. Fabric is so very soft, not super thin and just the right size. I bought a med and it fit perfectly, just right under a jacket or separate. It’s pure white with some stretch if you want a. Lose fit.

Unbelievable shirt for the money!
Color: White, Size: Small
Soft and cozy yet sharp and finished. Would definitely highly recommend. Went back and bought two more. Comes out of the dryer without a wrinkle. The color on the brown is rich and looks good dressed up or down. Definitely a great T-shirt at a fantastic price.
