At the heart of every show is the frenetic performances by front man Brandon Blaine, guitarist Jay Rogers, bassist Michael Perez, drummer Luke Perine. That combined with the musicians' energy and spirit, the band evokes a foreboding, and very rock 'n' roll presence. The band spent eleven days locked in at Hollywood's legendary EastWest Studios (Brian Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop) with St Vincent producer John Congleton, with all visitors banned and all distraction eliminated. When they met Congleton they connected intensely and instantly, more like co-conspirators than colleagues. With Congleton's precision production, they found their own way between the powerful-but-too-polished sound of right now and the engaging-but-aging reinterpretations of classic punk/rock albums of the 60s and 70s.

A New Classic
Format: Kindle
I pre-ordered, so I was able to get the PDF and start reading early. Of all the books I own on the American Revolution, I think this one stands to become my "go to." It is encyclopedic in scope, but deftly avoids becoming a drudgery or a slog through a mire of textbook facts. Somehow, Eric has managed to include a great deal of detail without losing any of the drama. It’s the story that rises to the fore in a gripping tale that just happens to be true (and much more than that, is our heritage). All the trademark “Metaxas” hallmarks are here: judiciously placed humor and lightheartedness that never descends into silliness, seriousness that somehow never lacks in winsomeness, depth that never smothers. He manages to portray both the soberness that the subject deserves without losing the hopefulness that the story of the Revolution should inspire in us. And along the way, you’ll find yourself better understanding what “went down” and (just as importantly) what it means to you today. Excellent work. If you think another history book on the American Revolution cannot inspire you or keep your attention, this one is up to the challenge.

The History Teacher I Always Wished For

With his trademark wit and his eye for those wonderfully absurd details that most historians tend to overlook, Metaxas drew me deeply into the story. I found myself laughing out loud one moment and profoundly moved the next. The tiny anecdotes and humorous asides were not distractions at all — they were precisely what made these towering figures suddenly feel human and unforgettable. Eric makes these historical figures flesh-and-blood again. He brings both heroes and villains vividly to life in a way that makes the drama of America’s birth feel immediate, thrilling, and deeply personal. In short, Eric Metaxas is the history teacher I always wished I had. At 600 pages, this book reads with the ease and momentum of a paperback novel, yet carries extraordinary depth and scholarship. A witty, learned page-turner, replete with wacky anecdotes but suffused by wisdom and patriotic love. Metaxas shows how the biblical view of the human person made America possible, and weaves throughout the story pieces of evidence that Providence actively aided the pious patriots against their cynical, post-Christian enemies in Britain. I devoured this book in 72 hours, and now I want to go back and read it again.
