Slab & Flame: A Clay + Glass Experience

Presented by LoLo Studios, a.k.a. sister studios Loretta Studios & Glass and LOAM Clay Studio, both located at 131 Loretta Avenue North in Ottawa, ON.

Welcome the shift in seasons with this one-of-a-kind, hands-on collaboration between Loretta Studios and Gallery and LOAM Clay Studio. In this full-day weekend workshop, you’ll create two beautiful, complementary pieces that celebrate the wonderful, weird and wild world of mushrooms.

Start the day at Loretta Studios & Glass, where you’ll learn the delicate art of torch-working with borosilicate glass to craft funky fungi in your favourite colours. Using a flame, gravity and some basic tools you’ll transform rods of glass into an adorable little mushroom stir stick, perfect for mixing up your favorite cocktail, hot chocolate or healing herbal tincture.

Then, slide on over to LOAM Clay Studio (literally: we’re connected by a sliding barn door!) to learn the slip transfer image technique and make your own mushroom image to place on your cup. You’ll also be guided in how to hand-build a bespoke mushroom cup or mug using simple slab construction techniques. We’ll provide templates to guide your form — whether you prefer a crisp, minimal look or want a wonkier, more organic aesthetic that’s well-suited to celebrating mushrooms in all their bizarre and beautiful shapes. Explore optional sculptural add-ons to personalize your piece and make it uniquely yours.

Give your creative curiosity a workout with an immersive day in our studios, exploring both low- & hi-tech methods of making by hand! All materials, firings, and instruction included. No prior experience in clay or glass necessary. 

Workshop details: Finished pieces will be ready for pickup  2-4 weeks after the workshop date. Space is limited to 6 participants.
