Ajuga ‘Catlin’s Giant’ is a bold and striking cold-hardy variety of the popular Ajuga reptans, known for its purplish-bronze leaves and beautiful trumpet-shaped blooms that resemble a bugle. This herbaceous perennial is prized for its fast-growing, low-maintenance nature and ability to thrive in a variety of conditions. It is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking to add texture and color to shaded or partially sunny areas.

Ajuga ‘Catlin’s Giant’ has gained popularity due to its oversized groundcover and vibrant purple flower spikes. Unlike smaller varieties, this cultivar makes a dramatic statement in landscapes while maintaining all the benefits of Ajuga, including erosion control and weed suppression. It is also known as Catlin's giant bugleweed, or Ajuga reptans ‘Catlins Giant’.

This robust ground cover typically grows 8 inches tall. It spreads aggressively, forming a dense mat that can cover 3 feet wide, making it ideal for filling large areas in gardens.

The defining feature of Ajuga ‘Catlin’s Giant’ is its large, glossy, bronze-tinged leaves, which are much larger than those of other Ajuga varieties.

These leaves create a stunning carpet of foliage year-round. In spring and early summer, it produces spikes of deep purple to blue-violet flowers that rise above the dense rosette, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

When it comes to care, it thrives in partial to full shade but can tolerate some morning sun. It prefers well-draining soil enriched with organic matter, although it adapts to various soil types. Regular watering is necessary during establishment, but once mature, it is relatively drought-tolerant.

When grown indoors, maintain a temperature range of 60–75°F and provide bright, indirect light.

For outdoor cultivation, it is hardy in USDA Zones 4–9 and benefits from occasional pruning to remove dead leaves and spent flower spikes.

Fertilize your Bugleweed Catlins giant once a year in early spring with a balanced, slow-release NPK fertilizer with an equal ratio of 5-10-5 to promote vigorous growth.

Ajuga ‘Catlin’s Giant’ can easily propagate through division or by separating runners. In early spring or fall, dig up a healthy clump and divide it into smaller sections, ensuring each has roots attached. Replant immediately in the desired location, water thoroughly, and mulch to retain moisture. Runners can also be pinned into the soil to root naturally.

According to the ASPCA, Ajuga species, including ‘Catlin’s Giant,’ are non-toxic to humans, dogs, cats, and horses. This makes it a pet-friendly groundcover option for gardens, offering peace of mind for pet owners.

Overall, the Ajuga reptans ‘Catlin’s Giant’ is a versatile and visually striking plant that adds year-round interest to gardens. Its dramatic foliage, vibrant flowers, and low-maintenance care make it a standout ground cover for shaded and partially sunny areas. Whether used to suppress weeds, attract pollinators, or enhance landscapes with its lush appearance, this cultivar proves to be an invaluable addition to any garden. Its non-toxic nature and adaptability ensure it remains a favorite among gardeners of all skill levels.

Great saddle bag item
Style: Face Stick, Size: 0.45 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I love the size! This small sized product is handy for the outdoorsman. Very convenient to keep in pocket or saddle bag. Product kept my ears, face and back of neck from sun burning. Easy to apply and rub in and was actually not oily feeling like most others. And an added bonus it help to keep nats and mosquitoes away from face, ears and neck!

Love the stick! I’m not a baby.
Style: Face Stick, Size: 0.45 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I don’t have babies anymore just teens, but I keep one of these in the car for back of my hands. It doesn’t either freeze nor get hot melty and gloopy and separated like a cream. Withstands both extreme summer and below freezing winter temps. Also you easily swipe it on in 2 seconds, avoiding getting palms slimy to facilitate driving. However I drive less than I spend time on my screened in porch. I’m not in direct sun, only shade, but by now we know that it’s uva light even hitting you on cloudy rain through windows that is aging and causing cancer. So I’m getting TONS of uv light. Every time I go out there, I swipe it on the back of my hands, since spf wears off quickly there from dishes hand washing etc. Since I’ve been doing this, age spots have faded off my hands. Hands age very fast. It doesn’t clutter and look sloppy on porch, and again, doesn’t freeze or melt! And a whopping 19.2% zinc is CRAZY!! I could of course see this being perfect for babies faces since it wouldn’t run into the eyes and it’s gentle as heck on skin. It is like totally thick and white though, if that matters to you or your baby. I also keep the adult sun bum stick (not mineral) in my purse. Takes up no room. It is less white/more cosmetically elegant than baby mineral one, and I touch up my face with it. I reapply sunscreen every 2 hours (don’t wear makeup). These things are perfect!!!! They last forever too.

Small small size but nice to carry around in purse or beach bag.
Style: Face Stick, Size: 0.45 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This sunblock works really well. I like that it is only mineral based and it glides on easily . Due to its compact size I can carry this in my makeup bag. I placed sunblock every 2 hours on my face while I was in the swimming pool and I never got a sunburn. Pricey but easy to apply and compact size .

Works well, nice ingredients and easy on our babies skin. They do leave a white tint though that can take awhile to fully rub in

Small size, great product
Style: Face Stick, Size: 0.45 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Great product, just wish I had read the description better because this stick is TINY. On the flip side, its easy to carry around and doesn't gulf my baby's face.
