The Craft: Butterfly Inlay

Each fork begins with two ebony wood prongs, carved and smoothed to a uniform finish. A butterfly motif is assembled from natural white shell wings and a central agate stone, set in a gold-plated copper frame. The inlay is affixed to the top of the prongs, creating a single decorative unit.

The design draws from the image of butterflies emerging from cocoons, with the iridescent shell wings catching light at different angles. No two shell pieces are identical in grain or color, giving each fork a slightly different appearance.

The Materials

Ebony wood is dense and dark, providing a sturdy base for the inlay. Natural white shell (mother-of-pearl) is cut and shaped into wing forms, then polished to reveal its natural luster. The agate stone in the center is a green circular cabochon, set in a gold-plated bezel. Gold-plated copper forms the metal framework that holds the wings and stone together.

Because shell and agate are natural materials, you may see slight variations in color, iridescence, and grain. These are not flaws but signs of genuine stone and shell.

Fit & Care

This hair fork is best for fine to medium hair, or for creating smaller buns on thicker hair. The two-prong design provides more hold than a single stick but is still suited for lighter hair volumes.
