The period after the Second World War in Shetland saw a continuing decrease in population. Opportunities for the young were increasingly limited. The number of native Shetlanders fell to some 17,000. The process was reversed with the arrival of offshore oil in the years following 1970. At its peak the Shetland population rose to 23,000. The problems of managing the new Shetland fell largely on Shetland Islands Council. These were varied – housing, road building, expansion in education, both staff and buildings, social provision, the protection of the environment. Firmness and competence in dealings with the oil industry and accompanied by a substantial financial settlement. The pages of this book set out in detail the events of an era unheralded in Shetland’s history. Edward Thomason was born in Lerwick in 1922. He was educated at Lerwick Central Public School followed by five years at Anderson Educational Institute. He retired in 1982 after 41 years service in the insurance industry, largely in Shetland. For the next 12 years he held the position of vice-convener of Shetland Islands Council, in 1986 succeeding A. I. Tulloch as convener. The author’s period of public service ended in 1994. His first appointment had been in Lerwick as chairman of the house committee of Islesburgh House Community Centre. He took office in September, 1946. As convener of Zetland County Council during the years 1970-73 his was the responsibility of leading the council as the community adjusted to the imminent arrival of the oil industry. In 1989 he was awarded the OBE. The period 1970 to 1994 saw a transformation in Shetland affairs unequalled in the recorded history of these islands. The author acknowledges readily the support he has had from a happy marriage, lasting at the time of writing some 47 years.Shipping Notes

Best Boxer Briefs for Women!
Color: 09-multicolour (4-pack), Size: Large
I rarely give 5⭐️’s but these deserve it! Hands down, the most comfortable material, stitching, waistband, moisture wicking and overall comfort. They sit right beneath my bellybutton, they wash and dry well and they’re sturdy. I have tried 3 styles and these are the best.

Super soft and comfortable!
I haven't bought new underwear in forever. I used to wear thongs, but now find them incredibly uncomfortable. The last few times I've tried to buy new underwear, the sizing was either way off (I'm a medium, but gave up after having to return them for a large and then extra large) or the quality was horrible (two brands stretch waaaay out and they can fall down while wearing them (I have larger ass-ets, so they shouldn't start to slide down during use). I tried these after buying some bamboo pyjamas and I love them! They are incredibly soft, comfortable, and stretchy. I can use them all day, and they work well, whether I'm lounging on the couch or wearing them under my spandex shorts at the gym, they don't ride up or slide down. They are both comfortable and look sexy, while providing support in all the right places. I haven't had them too long, so I can't speak on the durability, but they appear to be of good quality and I plan to order more, this time without the band.

Well made, light fabric. Waist doesn't roll.
These bamboo underwear really do keep you cool.
They fit true to size, and wear easily. the wide elastic waist band doesn't roll on me.
They are comfortable to wear, washed and dried easily.
The material has some stretch to it, but not a lot.
Well made, no stray strings. Perfect fit for me.
Just what I was looking for.

Good quality, smooth feel
I got these briefs so recently that have washed just one pair so far. First off, these are very comfortable, the material is soft & bordering silky, good quality sewing. Wash well and minimal if any shrinkage. They do come a bit wrinkled from the dryer but hey, these are underwear and will go on smoothly. If it were a t-shirt, I would look sloppy. I feel the sizing is accurate. No rolling and these don't announce themselves under clothing. Planning on getting more of these boxers and replacing my old panties.

A little snug on the thighs
Size: Medium, Color: Multicoloured G (5-pack)
Super comfy, soft and thin. For reference, I'm 5'6", 135, athletic build. I bought medium. I almost returned them because I thought they were a bit too snug on my thighs, and my thighs are not large at all. I was concerned about panty lines under snug clothing. But, because they're thin, I figured they would probably stretch, so I kept them. So far, I've only worn them under a night shirt, but they're super comfortable and they dont ride up at all. Very nice, but if your thighs are a little thick, you probably won't like them.
