The First-Ever Figure of the World’s First Hip-Hop Comic Book Character by Eric Orr

Before Rappin’ Max Robot became the star of the world’s first Hip-Hop comic book, he was a head drawn in chalk throughout the streets of New York by a young Eric Orr, bringing together Orr’s passion for comics, robots, and sci-fi imagery. Orr’s friend and collaborator, Keith Haring, coined the phrase “robot head” to refer to this visual, and as the character’s look evolved, he was given a proper name: Rappin’ Max Robot (MAX being an acronym for Maximum Audio Xperience).

Orr’s graphic skill soon led to partnerships with various Hip-Hop artists, developing logos, art, and designs that helped define the look of the culture; Orr was not a musician himself, but found a creative home alongside MCs and DJs. In 1986, while working at Strong City Records with friends Jazzy Jay and Rocky Bucano, Orr brought together these twin passions and self-published a comic book featuring Max: written entirely in verse, with the robot as the rapper. Distributing the comic himself, Orr quickly sold out the initial print run of 500 copies, and followed up this success with a trio of “special edition” issues.
Years later, with the help of Pop Culture Historian / Curator Patrick A. Reed and Cornell University, Rappin’ Max Robot was recognized as the first Hip-Hop comic and a significant piece of American cultural history.

This limited-edition statue stands approximately 8” and captures the iconic cover art featuring Rappin’ Max in his signature stance. Complete with arched back, tilted head, and crossed arms, Max drips with B-Boy attitude. While the original figure art was printed in black and white, the colors Orr selected represent his vision of classic sci-fi silver with fluorescent orange highlights and light blue faded lenses. This limited-edition collectible statue also features his signature head and antennas. Max also comes with a stylized boom-box to listen to his favorite rappers. The specialty package is adorned with images from the comic as well as Orr’s famous robot heads.

Let’s Be Onyx is proud to debut its first project, the first-ever designer art toy based on the world’s first-ever Hip-Hop comic, Eric Orr’s Rappin’ Max Robot!

No Babies, Just An Adult With Eczema
Size: 8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
No babies here, I bought this for myself because I was recently diagnosed with Eczema and have been searching for something gentle and non-irritating but also natural and a shampoo/body wash combo for quickie showers. I was leaning toward something entirely unscented and marketed toward adult skin conditions, but I happened upon this, did some reading on their website and it actually looked pretty good, so I ordered. I was very curious how it would smell since some reviews say "it stinks" or it smells like men's cologne, etc. yet others say they loved the smell. It really shows how different preferences are, because to ME, I think perfumey mainstream shampoos "stink". I really like the scent of this but to try and help others I'll describe it as best as I can: It's an "earthy" first of all. Someone mentioned patchouli and while it's not nearly as strong as that, it is along the same lines as far as smelling sort of "woody". In the hair it smells a little like Sandalwood for those who know that smell. I have a good nose (and use a lot of essential oils) so right off the bat I picked up both bergamot and cedarwood and sure enough, checked the label and there they are. I could absolutely understand some people thinking of it as somewhat masculine, but it definitely doesn't smell like cologne in my opinion. I'm a little bit of a hippie/earthy type so it's right up my alley but if you prefer flowery, more mainstream scents from a drugstore shampoo you may not care for it. Seems like an unusual scent for a baby product I'll admit, but I like the scent nonetheless and would use it my baby if I had one. The scent remains after my hair is dry but only very lightly. If I lift my long hair to my nose and breathe in it's there but I don't think it's strong enough for anyone else to smell unless they're hugging me or something. I'm sensitive to most scents in bath/body products and this isn't at all overwhelming for me. It worked great, a little thin for my taste but I think all baby shampoos are that way, I can't remember. It made my hair feel soft even while still wet in the shower, and it felt nice and soft after it dried. It doesn't lather a whole lot, but I don't care about lather as long as it works. People tend to be fooled into thinking lather somehow equals effectiveness and that's not true. I've only used it once, but so far it has not aggravated my eczema which was my main reason for buying it, so that's good. My only complaint, and for me it's enough to stop me from buying it again, is the price! Now this is my own fault I realize, but I bought this not fully paying attention to the fact that it's 8 ounces. I saw the size, but it didn't register in my head how small that is. Now, I know nothing about bathing babies and how long a small bottle would last so maybe it's a fine size for that, but this little bottle won't last long at all using it as both shampoo and body wash for an adult, and there's no way I'll pay that much again now that I realize how small it actually is for the price. I saw a 16 ounces size, but it's still too pricey for my budget, I'll just opt for a natural sulfate-free shampoo for grownups when this bottle is done. Too bad too, because I do love the scent.
