The traditional Asian conical hat, commonly known as the "rice hat," "paddy hat," or derogatorily as a "coolie hat," first originated in East and Southeast Asia, specifically China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It has been widely utilized throughout Asia, from northern China to southern Indonesia and from western Burma to the Philippines. Made from local materials, this conical hat offers excellent protection against the sun and rain. This rare rice cane Viet Cong helmet features a complex design and construction, with accents of tan and dark brown.
