The story of the Rolex Milgauss begins during the salad days of the Atomic Age. As it became more and more common for medical professionals and power plant workers to come into contact with substantial amounts of magnetism in the workplace, a demand began to grow for a timepiece that would not stop or have its timing altered upon encountering a field of over 50 gauss.

Ever the pioneer, Rolex rose to the occasion in 1956 and created a watch designed to withstand an electromagnetic field of up to 1,000 gauss (hence the name, as “one thousand” translates to “mille” in Latin). The prototype was even sent to the European Organization for Nuclear Research for testing. The finished product adopted a look similar to that of their wildly successful Submariner, and as a visual nod to its intended audience, the second hand was crafted to look like what appears to be a bolt of lightning or a magnetic wave.

The Milgauss was discontinued in 1988, but was reintroduced in 2007 with a ferromagnetic shield just inside the case, as well as a magnetic alloy Parachrom-Blu hairspring that is ten times more resistant to impact shocks, and affords the watch even more defense against magnetic fields than the original version (all despite being finer than human hair). This is one of those reintroduced at this time, now referred to as the “ 2008 rolex.“ The updated shield makes for a case thicker than that of most Rolex watches, and the 904L polished stainless steel from which it is built makes it all but impervious to corrosion. All of this offers robust protection to a calibre 3131 self- winding mechanical movement that is exclusive to Rolex timepieces.

Though the Milgauss may have been built for the needs of a scientist, it his become a favorite of some of the most brilliant minds in the entertainment world. The collections of vintage Rolex superfans Jennifer Anniston and Eric Clapton each count at least one among their inventory, as do those of Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, and Ashton Kutcher (who has been seen wearing a piece very similar to this 2008 white face model). Less conventional yet infinitely more durable than the average Rolex, the Milgauss is a stoically eccentric watch that effortlessly stands the test of time.

Slow, sorry but good
Format: Kindle
This was a slow moving book. Lots of character pov chapters, lots of superfluous descriptions and endless courtly appearances stalled this book to start. Once you get into the heart of the story, it takes off. Before you know it the book is done. My favorite character is Reyna. She is so strong. She is true to herself. She gets into a lot of trouble with her headstrong ways but it's entertaining. I have high hopes for Lorcan. He is honorable to a fault. Thane had turned out to be better than I thought but i still don't like him. Eislin is useless. Great plot twists at the end. I'm looking forward too book 2.

Very detailed! Beautiful world building! Strong Heroine!
Format: Kindle
Starts off a little slow and confusing with different POV’s, but starts to all come together towards the middle to make an elaborate plot line and makes it all worth it. Beautiful world building and attention to detail as well as great writing. The cliffhanger was gut wrenching! Can’t wait for the next book!

Interesting
Format: Kindle
This was a very captivating book once you got into it thoroughly. But the third person perspective was a bit hard to get used to. But as you got into it and followed the different characters, it was interesting and filled with intrigue, conflict and forbidden love. I can’t wait to read the next one and to complete the series.

Just read it. You won’t regret it.
Format: Hardcover
This book completely blew me away. I loved every single character—not just the FMC and MMC, but the side characters too, which is rare. In a first book, side characters can feel flat while the focus is on world-building, but that definitely wasn’t the case here. The romantic tension between the FMC and MMC was so good—seriously addictive. The plot itself felt pretty straightforward at first, and the world-building was easy to follow. It even gave me Heartless Hunter / Wolf King vibes… until the last 20 pages. And wow—those final pages. I usually spot plot twists coming, and I thought this one was going to be predictable, but I was completely wrong. That ending genuinely shocked me—I haven’t had that reaction to a book in a long time. I’m already counting down to book two (and that teaser chapter? Absolutely brutal). Just read it. You won’t regret it.

4 Stars for Now!
Format: Kindle
I DEVOURED this book. I was in a huge slump after reading a horrible series right before this but after 3 pages of this book, I was hooked. I read the whole book in 2 days. I think the author did an amazing job at writing an engaging story with an amazing twist at the end. I know many readers feel betrayed by the twist and find the narrator to be unreliable but I feel that the twist was done in a great unsuspecting way. Though I do feel betrayed, I think there is so much room for redemption in the second book! The author also did an amazing job at world/character building. She was able to do so without interrupting the story which is one of my huge pet peeves. A lot of authors build by taking breaks in the plot or dialogue which I find choppy and disengaging but this author was able to build in an engaging way. There was some lack of world/character building but I think that was due to keeping reader in the dark. The world, politics, and characters were all very easy to understand. I found the romance a little lackluster and a bit off-kilter. Some of it was really pushy and rushed which left a bad taste in my mouth. I do hope the author delves deeper into the romance in coming books. The FMC was a breath of fresh air. She was not whiny or stuck-up like most books. She was never afraid to accept help from others but she was still able to shine with her intelligence. Not once did I think she made a poor decision just for the sake of a plot point. She was really easy to like. The MMC could use some work but I think that will happen more in coming books. This is a MUST read, my only advice would be to wait until it is a finished series!
