Discover a profound account of resilience in "Living With Earthquakes and Their Aftermath," authored by Rosie Belton. This captivating paperback is essential for anyone impacted by natural disasters, particularly the earthquakes that struck Canterbury. With dimensions of 150 x 208 mm and 156 pages of insightful reflections, this book is not just a narrative; it's a lifeline for those navigating life after seismic upheaval. Belton's unique diary-style writing resonates deeply, capturing real-time experiences and emotional truths from the devastating quakes that began in 2010 and continued for years. From the struggle for normalcy amidst constant tremors to the long-lasting impacts still felt today, her story is both a personal and collective exploration of survival, hope, and healing. This book is particularly valuable for readers interested in the psychology of disaster recovery and the experience of living in seismically active regions. As Michael Palin eloquently remarked, it helps us comprehend the incomprehensible, blending bewilderment, hope, and desperation into a compelling read. Whether you are a researcher, a student of geology, or simply someone seeking to understand the effects of earthquakes, "Living With Earthquakes" offers both personal stories and broader insights into trauma and resilience in the face of natural disasters. “I am reminded of what Harold Nicholson wrote about London during the Blitz: the same uncertainty as to what horror was going to happen next…” – Michael Palin Always an acute observer of people and the environment, in this new book Rosie Belton once again uses her diarist style to capture with intimacy and immediacy the events as they happened around her, in this case the earthquakes experienced by the people of Canterbury. Nothing could have prepared her, she says, for the severity of the quakes, starting with the first one in 2010, and then the ongoing disruption over the next six years: the grinding reality of living through so many months of shaking and the after-effects. Like many creative individuals, Rosie found that writing about those terrible events as they unfolded developed into a coping mechanism. And now, the result of her careful record-keeping and reflections can be read and appreciated by so many others whose lives have been affected by similarly large- scale natural disasters. It also makes excellent reading for anyone with an interest in knowing more about what it can be like to live in a seismically active country. Dedicated to all who face and survive unwanted change, Living with Earthquakes helps us, as well-known author and actor Michael Palin said after reading Rosie’s writings, ‘to comprehend the incomprehensible, conveying the mixture of bewilderment, hope and desperation very effectively’.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Staying is the making. The real making.
Format: Paperback
The tyrant owns form, doesn’t he? This is a book for anyone who might be no one, or anyone who is worried, or anyone who has ever thought about women, epic poetry, or both.
