The cap on her head is the pileus, a Roman symbol of emancipation once worn by freed slaves. The rattlesnake at her feet brings the whole thing back to the early American Republic, where liberty still had teeth and people were not yet expected to ask permission to exist.

Printed on a garment-dyed vintage tee, this shirt has a soft, broken-in feel from the first wear. The muted color and weathered artwork give it the look of an old civic engraving pulled from a forgotten freedom pamphlet, only much easier to wear to the grocery store.
