Synonym: Anemone pulsatilla

Common names: Pasque Flower

Family: Ranunculaceae

Origin/distribution: Europe, southwest Asia

Habitat: grassland (alkaline), it also grows in sparsely wooded coniferous areas on sunny slopes, again, with calcareous soil

More: Nice addition to your sunny rock garden or border edge with good drainage. The foliage will go dormant in summer, but the seedhead will persist. The mythology around this plant is interesting. It seems to pop up on old landscape features in Britain such as boundaries and barrows - places where ancient battles were fought against Romans or Vikings. P. vulgaris has received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Has been used medicinally.

Entertaining, informative, without being overwhelming.
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Got it for, basically, half-off standard retail. At that price, it's a fine addition to the WWII library. Some interesting information displayed in a mostly entertaining way. I get that battle maps are always a challenge (maps are static - battles are dynamic). This does a fairly adequate job - better than most battle maps - though far from groundbreaking. item arrived well packed - no issues with binding (as some others seem to report). Though the book overall is a bit "warped" and several of the maps are mis-printed or mis-cut as to make them unusable. 3 bad out of 300 - not horrible - again at the price I paid. If the subject interest you - I'd suggest getting - but not a "must have".
