The fist floating caliper consists of a holder and housing, which is located in rubber damping sleeves. It slides within the holder together with the outer brake pad while as the pad wears. To prevent the housing from lifting off the pad and causing noise issues, the caliper is pulled against the brake pad by the caliper housing spring retaining clip.
These clips are exposed to continuous corrosion attack and should therefore also be replaced each time the brake pads are changed.
