History of USS CL-46 Phoenix (ARA General Belgrano)

The USS Phoenix (CL-46) was the 5th ship of the United States Navy's Brooklyn-class light cruisers. It was the third vessel named after Phoenix, the capital city of the state of Arizona.
  • Laid down: April 15, 1935
  • Launched: March 13, 1938
  • Commissioned: October 3, 1938
The USS Phoenix (CL-46) compiled an illustrious combat record during World War II. Under the command of Admiral Douglas MacArthur, it achieved numerous battle honors: it survived torpedo strikes, enemy shelling, and even escaped a Japanese kamikaze attack during the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was famously known as the "Lucky Ship" of the U.S. Pacific Fleet in WWII. True to its name, the Phoenix cruiser endured like the mythical immortal bird.

After the war, the ship was sold to the Argentine Navy in 1951. In 1956, it was renamed the ARA General Belgrano. During the Falklands War (1982), it was sunk by the British nuclear-powered submarine HMS Conqueror of the British Task Force.

Nice!
Color: Brown, Size: XX-Large
A lot better made than I anticipated. Looks and feels like suede. For my needs, it was perfect for a costume. Fits well, and looks more expensive.

Good fit
Color: Light Grey, Size: Medium
A nice vest and a true slim fit. Good quality for the price and no satin back, the material is used for the whole vest, allowing it to be worn without a jacket and still look smart. I am 6' 3" and 200lbs with a slim build, the Medium size fit like a glove, snug but not tight as a waistcoat should be.

Good Fit, Fold Lines
5'9, around 125-130 pounds, and the Small fit me just fine. Adjuster strap provides a great range of... adjustment. Good waistcoat if you are looking for something quick and cheap. With it being cheap, however, the material suffers. Due to it being folded while in shipping, there are seem lines going down the sides of the waistcoat which make it poke out and look awkward.
