Timeline: Science & Discoveries, by Asmodee, is an easy to learn, family friendly, trivia game in which 2-8 players aim to be the first to discard their hand of four cards by placing them in the correct point in time on the ever-growing timeline.

Each Timeline card depicts a specific scientific, geographical or historical discovery. These include the discovery of: islands/countries, cures for diseases, crops, animal and plant species alongside significant archaeological discoveries. The cards are all double-sided, one side with illustration and the event, the other identical but including the date of the discovery.

Setting up the game is simple, with players being dealt four, of the 110, discovery cards face-up so they cannot see the dates. Two cards are placed side by side in the centre of the table date-side up. The first player chooses one of the cards in their hand and places it on one end or in the space between the two events. Placement depends on where in time the player thinks the event took place. The player then flips the card over to check.

If correct, the card stays in place and the player now has a hand of three. If incorrect the card is moved to the correct position and the player draws another card. Play continues and, as each subsequent player takes their turn, the timeline grows. The longer the timeline, the greater the number of possible positions to place a grad and so correct placement becomes even more difficult.

The first player to successfully place all four of their cards in the correct space on the timeline wins.

Timeline is simple to play and, as you can take a guess when you don't know, an accessible game for children. The wide variety of discoveries increases replay-ability and makes it unlikely for an expert in one field to spoil the game by winning too quickly. The small tin makes it easy to take Timeline with you so it is great for family get-togethers, camping trips and holidays or even on the table of a local pub.

Timeline: Science & Discoveries is a great little game, easy to learn, educational, fun for all the family and great value. This edition can be combined with other titles from the Timeline series to increase the diversity and challenge in each game.
