This J-45 is constructed from a solid Sitka spruce top and is paired with a mahogany back and sides for its voicing. A tone wood pairing that is just as much traditional as it was since the J-45's humble beginnings in 1942. The mahogany body brings a deep, bold, and warm tone while the Sitka spruce top adds definition, snap, and clarity. This particular example sounds exceptionally well. The double-bound white binding on the body and the fire stripe pickguard add a touch of flair to the vintage sunburst finished featured on the body.

Normally the J-45 spots a 24.75-inch scale length mahogany neck but this example alters tradition and shakes things up with a 25.5-inch scale length in its place. This change in spec adds a noticeable change in feel and string tension, but it is welcoming. The dreadnought is incredibly resonant and has sharp, bright attack. The mahogany neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets and white dot inlays for fret markers. The neck profile on this J-45 is a comfy SlimTaper C shape that feels effortless to play.

Strings are loaded into the rosewood bridge, capped with white bridge pins, and strung to pitch with Grover "milk bottle" tuners. The back of the headstock displays its Gibson Custom Shop badge proudly. The entire guitar has received a high gloss nitrocellulose finish for a polished and professional look.

Complete with a Gibson hardshell case, this J-45 is a workhorse guitar with a few twists to its production line counterparts. Since 1942 these full bodied dreadnoughts have inspired and continue to do so.
